My daughter picked out the black version for her to use in 7th grade. She needs a big backpack because her school makes her bring a lot of stuff, and she seems happy with the size. I feel like it's not as big as it looks in the manufacturer's pictures and definitely not the biggest backpack she's used for school, but she tested it on her flute case and it fits, so it's at least big enough for that. She is concerned about the straps, though, which are adjustable creating a lot of length variation but the minimum is still pretty big, which she thinks is making the backpack sag. In general, the materials feel strong enough but definitely are not soft or comfortable. Everything has a sort of smooth cheap plastic feel when you touch it. In addition to the dual-zipper main pocket, there are three zipper pockets in the front and one that would be on the wearer's lower back. All the zippers are high-quality metal and they move really easily. Each side has a water bottle slot that could hold a generic disposable water bottle or one the size of a Nestle Pure Life. I don't think either could even reach a Dasani or Aquafina, and certainly not some of the reusable water bottles which are much wider. The water bottle holders have some adjustable rope parts added to secure them, but it seems pointless when the holders are so small that you don't have room you need to take away by tightening. In the main pouch, there's a laptop holder pouch that works well and has an extra Velcro strap for security. The main pouch also has a USB-A extension that can connect to the outside, although I didn't test this. The largest of the three front zipper pockets has good organization spots for pencils and pens. There's also a fourth front pocket that closes with a buckle. The buckles are high quality plastic, both in that pocket and for two other buckles that generally secure the backpack and let you hang items. There's also a pink fluffy ball pendant that hangs from one of the front zippers, which is a nice decoration that feels soft. I'm not thrilled with the price, but if you're fine with the price and the lack of softness, the backpack has all the quality you need. Read more
