The sole is very rubbery but not a ton of tread, so not sure how these will handle icy sidewalks, but they're definitely cozy, cute and comfortable. These boots are far better than I expected. The materials appear of high quality and the craftsmanship is good. The seams are sewn straight and there is no visible glue. The zippers work smoothly. The fleecy interiors of the boots are smooth and can easily be worn with bare feet. The sole is slightly padded and somewhat elevated and the tread has decent traction. The style is chunky, with a very boxy toe that allows plenty of wiggle room. I ordered my regular size and found them fine in width but a bit tight in length. My big toes graze the inside front. I figure they will stretch a bit with wear, especially with socks, so it should not be a problem. Around the ankle and lower calf they are close fitting but not snug, a good balance. These boots are the perfect thing to throw on to walk the dog, get the mail or do the school run. Easy on - easy off, comfy, warm and a casual style that has been popular for a long time now.
