These socks appealed to me because the of their speckled, heather colors that I always fall for in winter woolens. To be sure, they are cute socks with definite ridged cuffs and reinforced toes. The socks are not particularly heavy but they’re soft. The interior of the socks looks like it’s felted wool which makes them seem comfortable and warm, though I wouldn’t consider them thermal. Sizing and washing comments follow. These socks fit US shoe size 6 -10 but the ideal fit, that would look like it does in the pictures, is more like size 6 - 8. Wearing shoe size 9-1/2 or 10, I’m at the top end of the range. Although they stretch to fit, on me they are ankle socks with the top end of the sock only 3 in above my ankle bone. For a “crew” sock they’re pretty short anyway - - more like what’s called a “short crew” than a regular “crew”. I can wear them with boots but they would look silly on me with any other kind of shoe. I don’t wash anything by hand so I did a test. I put one sock in a mesh washing bag and washed it in a cold water, regular machine wash. After washing, I compared it to its mate which I hadn’t washed; the washed sock is on the right in the photo. I could not detect any shrinkage and the washed sock is still soft to the touch, but you will have to decide for yourself how you want to wash these. Read more
