Coming from SE Virginia but living overseas, I struggled with what to bring back as gifts for friends there after visiting home. Our main agricultural products here are peanuts (seen as the cheapest nut, not special) and pork (many of my friends are Muslim, so no). These pillowcases may not have been actually made in Virginia, but they’re more one-size than a t-shirt from the oceanfront tourist shops and easier to display as well. I bought some pillow forms on Amazon to go with them, which came nicely compressed in plastic to toss into my luggage, then opened them up and filled these on arrival. Perfect little gifts at a reasonable price! (Other ideas if you’re in a similar situation: A simple game, craft kit, or toy if they’ve got kids, something that doesn’t require much English to play; a regional vegan cookbook so you know it won’t have any animals your friend might not eat - tho it may still have alcohol; or a small piece of jewelry from a local silversmith at the farmer’s market if you’re especially flush with cash that summer.)
