My husband and I agreed to jump on this purchase when we saw this dumbbell set actually in stock. We use them a few times a week at least and they are great quality! As most reviews state, they do have a smell (which is to be expected with new rubber items), but it wasn't an issue for us. We have them in our garage and the smell seemed to dissipate quickly. These weights seem to be made well and don't have any defects and have so far been holding up to the normal abuse that weights get. The only suggestion I would make is to get a pair of weight lifting gloves if you don't already own them. the handles aren't smooth, so if you get sweaty or bear weight on the dumbbells, they will hurt your hands. Top-notch gym quality; the rubber is not rock-hard and has no smell, the build quality is A+, and the chrome and knurling is perfect. Was delivered by truck to my home in a wood crate on a pallet and with a mini-forklift to my doorstep. I subsequently ordered a 65lb pair by another brand last summer and it sucked by comparison—rock hard rubber that smelled like tires even after I put it outside in the Miami sun for 2 weeks, dull chrome with a less ergonomic handle shape. So, I've been looking for a dumbbell deal like many of you during my Covid-19 isolation (not ready to trust a gym yet). As you probably are aware, most used dumbbells are extremely overpriced right, but this was priced right on the money (I'm used to paying about $2 a lb. for good dumbbells). I received my shipment about a week early, they came in a sturdy crate (which I'm now using for storage). So far, the dumbbells seem sturdy and great quality (I had York metal ones in the past, but these seem just as strong). I've read where people complain about the smell, I've only had them a day and the smell seems to be dissipating. I have them in the garage, so that might help. But, like many others have said, rubber dumbbells always smell a little in the beginning. Anyway, if you are hesitating, I say, "Buy them!" And, start lifting! They'll "PUMP YOU UP!" After almost a year of use the rubber smell is still powerful and they still leave black marks on anything they touch. I can't set them on the floor without the floor being marked up. Otherwise, the balance and feel of the weights is fine. If anyone has a viable suggestion for perhaps safely sealing the rubber, I would be most interested. Read more
