Perfect scrunched down over shoes or boots.
I’m not sure what makes these Japanese style but I assume it is that they are wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. I actually got these to scrunch down over the ankle when wearing low boots. The style works well for that. The knit fabric is heavy enough to give added warmth to the lower legs and ankles. Other than that, I would not care for the style to use as a traditional leg warmer as the wide bottom seems odd to me for that use. I prefer something more fitted at the ankle.
