The description didn't mention that it's a 2G device. In the United States, 2G is almost entirely shut down (I think that the last bit of 2G network will be gone by summer 2024). So, for US customers, it's now a paper weight. Read more
I bought this switch to control turning an airplane engine heater on and off while the plane is in a hangar 20 miles away. As you can see from the photo, I wired a two - duplex metal receptacle box so that one side is always on and one side is powered on by the GSM switch. Very simple and works. After a lot of research and misinformation here and on the various websites, I bought a SIM card from speedtalkmobile.com. They sell a $5/month Alarm SIM which is easy to buy, set up and does not require a phone to get the mobile number. The GSM switch works, but I notice that sometimes my text messages do not get through to the switch. I don't know if that is because of the switch or weak signal. It does respond most of the time. At least once I noticed that the signal LED was on steady instead of blinking like it should if it was communicating with the cell towers. The 1/2 page instruction manual does not mention this. I wish they would improve instructions. For a cost of about $60 in all parts I have a working switch. I hope it lasts. Read more

I also bought this for an airplane block heater, and it's a perfect alternative to the much more expensive bespoke devices. The instructions are poor, of course--what is not mentioned in them is how to hook up the switch to an outlet. I bought 14 gauge wire, broke the tab between the screws on the outlet, and wired power from the hot plug to the "com" spot on the switch and then from the "normally open" to the other plug on the same outlet (now separated because of the broken-off tab). I got a text-only plan from US Mobile for $4.50/month and it the switch worked on the first try. Perfect! Read more
Despite others' success with a SimpleTalk SIM card in the USA, I ran the IMEI and it's not compatible with US cellular networks. Buyer beware Read more
