This is one of the best things I've ever bought to use for its intended purpose. I needed a night light for the bathroom in my apartment. Usually I would opt for a little one that plugs into the outlet, but for God knows what reason, the outlet in my bathroom is wired so that the power to it shuts off when you flip the switch off for the regular bathroom light (Why did they wire it that way?). I wanted something that was battery-operated that I could place on the little ledge in my bathroom and that also had a motion sensor so it wouldn't stay on all night and quickly wear down the batteries. Other lights I saw were kind of ugly and utilitarian-looking but then I saw this adorable little lamp with its retro-look reminiscent of the TV lamps that were popular in the 50s that people used in their living room or den to have steady but unobtrusive light in the room while watching television. This lamp had great reviews (though there tons of fake "great reviews" on Amazon these days so sadly the reviews on things can't be trusted as much as in the early Amazon days) and the price was very reasonable so I decided to try this lamp out. It DEFINITELY lives up to the great reviews. I placed the lamp on the ledge that runs along the wall right below the window in my bathroom. It picks up motion from several feet away so it kicks on as soon as I approach the bathroom door. The light is an LED but it's warm amber light, not the harsher white light, and bright enough so you can see just fine but not so bright that it will somewhat "wake you up" like flipping on the regular bathroom light would. And the lamp stays on as long as you don't sit or stand completely still while doing your bathroom business. That being said, you have to make sure to place the lamp where it will still pick up motion if you're on the toilet or at the sink. The lamp does have a switch on the bottom to shut it completely off or on to use for continuous, non-motion sensor light. It's a hard plastic that may be prone to cracking if dropped on a hard surface from a higher spot. The upper part of the lamp (the shade) is fully enclosed so dirt and dust won't get down inside onto the LED light. The only think that remains to be seen is how well the lamp will hold up to moisture from taking showers and the bathroom getting a bit steamy. I may put it in the linen closet during a shower to avoid anything happening to it but even still, at such a reasonable price I won't mind having to replace it if it lasts at least a year or so. Overall this is a perfect lamp to use as a bathroom night light, or for a hallway, entry way, or even a bedroom as long as you place it somewhere it's not going to switch on every time you move or roll over. I highly recommend it and am planning to buy another one for my bedroom. Read more

I was looking for something for my bathroom at night, so I wouldn't blind myself turning on the light all the time, and I came across this. This was something I decided to try, since the design wasn't too bad and I wanted something with motion sense, and it's worked great. I like that it even has a timer from when it activates and shuts off, though it's not very long, but you can choose to have it on that or keep it on. Not the highest quality of materials, being plastic and a simple design, but that's not really an issue since it's worked great and has done it's job for some time now. Read more

I got these two lamps today, and the packaging is excellent! The construction of each lamp also is excellent! They're quite rugged, and feel nice and heavy when picked up. I bought them for power outages, wanting alkaline battery lamps that also were "warm" (2700K) color LED bulbs because they're a lot easier on the eyes. Alkaline batteries are easy to buy and don't lose power over time, where rechargeable batteries tend to go down if not used. Power outages aren't all that often, and I wanted to always have access to fresh batteries. (I also have USB-chargeable lights, but for long-term outages they eventually need a new charge.) Each of these two lamps runs on 3 AA batteries, housed in their base. They each have a small remote control which runs on 2 AAA batteries. So 5 batteries per lamp, if the two lamps are far from each other. However; each lamp runs on the same frequency from the remotes, so 1 remote will simultaneously control both lamps when they're near to each other -- like in the living room somewhere. From my own casual testing, the remote works up to around 10-15 feet away. When I got far enough away, the remote turned one lamp on/off, but not the other. A few steps closer, and it ran both lamps again. The reason I gave these only 4 stars is there are some "quirks." First: There is a push-button power switch on the base of each lamp. It ONLY turns the lamp On or Off. There is NO control for dimming, timing, or color temperature. Without the remote, you Cannot change anything other than On or Off. I wish you could at least change the color temperature from "cool white" to "warm" back and forth, by maybe quickly double clicking. Like most other lamps or lights. And do the dimming by holding down the button to cycle through dimming back to full bright. Like most other lamps or lights. But... you can't. Even more strange: When the lamp is On, and you manually push the button on the base to Off, the remote no longer controls the lamp. However! IF you turn On the lamp, then change the brightness or color temperature with the remote, the lamp will remember. IF you then manually turn the lamp OFF, the remote no longer controls the lamp. But! If you then manually turn the lamp back On again, it will remember the previous setting. And the remote works again. Weird! So if you turn a lamp ON, then use the remote to change the color to "warm," and dim it to 50%, that works. If you then Manually push the button on the base to turn the lamp OFF, the remote only will control the other lamp (if it's nearby), but no longer control the lamp you just manually turned off. In other words, if you manually use the push-button to turn a lamp Off, then the remote no longer will turn it on. It will only do so if you FIRST manually turn the lamp on with the push-button. Then the remote will control it -- turn it on and off, change color, dim, or time it. Bizarre! The good news is that whether or not I have the remotes, or at least one of them, the push-button will definitely turn it on or off, when a lamp has batteries installed. It defaults to "cool white," but with the well-made shades, that's at least useful. The bad news is that I really prefer the "warm" color, which I only can get from the remote control. With both (included) remotes working on the same frequency, I only need one. If that one breaks or gets lost, at least the second one will still give me complete functionality. I don't know if the LED bulb(s) can be replaced -- that's a question to the company (in China). It doesn't look like it can be replaced. But it should last a good long time, and particularly since I'm only using it during power outages, should last a lifetime. To clarify the description page from the company about the USB power: Each lamp comes with a special cable that has a USB-A connector at one end, and a DC (for battery power) connector at the other. The lamps do NOT have a built-in rechargeable battery! That's fine for me, but if you think you can charge these up then run them that's not possible. The only "standalone" power capability is from AA alkaline or rechargeable AA batteries. The lamps, therefore, each can be run from any External -- not built-in -- power source that works with USB. For example, you can run a lamp (with this cable) from a USB power pack. You can run it from a computer's USB output IF it has a USB-A type connection. Otherwise, you'll need an adapter. Or you can use a USB-to-AC wall plug adapter to run the lamp with this cable from an outlet in your home. So the USB capability replaces what we used to do with a little transformer -- those heavy little boxes that plugged into a wall, then into your device with a small tube-like plug. I like the lamps! I'm keeping the lamps! I will only be using them during power outages (at night), not for everyday lighting anywhere. I don't need a night-light or small area light -- just emergency lighting. I like how sturdy they're built, and the quality of the shades. They're nicely bright, about like a 40-watt bulb. They'll go in a box until the power goes out, and that box also will store the remote control units with the lamps. So they don't get lost. But! If you're looking for everyday lamps, this is my attempt to clarify the description a little further. I wasn't at all sure whether these run on AA batteries, or USB power, or both. No -- they run on AA batteries. Or -- an always plugged-in USB connection to some other ongoing power source. And the USB connector is a type-A, which is slowly but surely disappearing in favor of type-C. Additionally; they do NOT run on either power source at the same time! If you have the USB-to-DC cable plugged into a lamp, it will cancel the AA battery power function. You must disconnect the USB "transformer" cable first, in order for the AA batteries in the lamp's base to function. All in all they're nifty little lamps, but those are some "interesting" quirks they have. Perhaps the company designers will read reviews like this and give us more control from the lamp's push-button. I don't like being totally dependent on something else (small) to get lost. These are a vanishing type of lamp, being LED, "warm" color, and running on alkaline AA batteries. Hard to find, but worth it. Read more

I've found these battery-powered lamps to be very satisfactory. As depicted, well-packaged, high quality, and very effective during the occasional power outage. Much better than matches and candles, or even flashlights. They suit my emergency preparedness objectives very well and have already been put into use once during a "high-wind event" during which the utility did a preemptive power shutdown due to wild fire liability concerns.
