3 stars. The first vest I received ripped at the seams when I added ONE weight plate that was 16lbs (if I remember correctly) literally fresh out of the box first try on, rip. I contacted company and was able to resolve issue and the new vest has held up well with 30lbs while running. 3 stars bc first poor quality control. Read more
The ZELUS Tactical Weighted Vest is well constructed, well designed, and moderately comfortable. This was for the vest only (no plates), which works out because my old vest started to rip at one of the shoulders. Empty, this vest feels super light and maneuverable. With plates inserted, still had good freedom of motion. I was using 30# of plates. I saw other reviews mentioned how much velcro is on this vest, which is true there is a lot, but kind of perplexed what the alternative would be to keep plates in place? The velcro is a necessity so plates are not moving around and creating issues while working out. It also allows you to change plates out, either up or down, rather than be locked in to one specific weight. I like how much padding there is in the shoulder straps. While it feels a little bulky, I got used to it fairly quickly and all that padding saved me from some super achy shoulders. I think with some use, these will flatten a bit. I could not give this 5 stars because I see one inherent flaw in its design. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why the weight pouches are designed with the openings towards the ground. The other vests I've used or seen have their openings facing up or the side. I know the plates are held in place with internal velcro strapping, but having the opening facing down just creates this voice in the back of my head that a plate can slide out and just destroy a toe. I also am a little hesitant to say this is worth the price because without plates, this is a little high in price ($120 at time of review) when there are comparable vests with plates just slightly higher in price. pros: super easy to get on and is very comfortable to wear unlike some other weighted vests. the straps keep it in place during workouts & the elastic sides ensures a perfect yet comfortable fit. Most of all its breathable with more exposure. easy to up your walking or running routine and blast past a plateau. the quality design allows you to load up on weight without the bulk which works well with mobility during workouts. i own several weighted vests, i give this one a 7.5/10 Cons: the first time i put it on my hair got caught in the velcro (ripped some out). THERE IS SO MUCH VELCRO DEPENDENT DESIGN. The shoulder straps are kinda narrow (too close to the neck). Why load the plates from the bottom and then need 3 steps to strap it in? Wouldn't it be more efficient to be a pocket that loads from the top! I feel like it could be more slim/secure and use less velcro/material if it were a top loading pocket. Selling the plates separate so you can precisely customize isnt a big issue for me, but others may want the plates included. you gotta get the curved plates for a better fit (i bought them used to save money), the flat plates make it fit a bit more bulky.
