I bought this to replace our olllllllld rice cooker that served us well for many, many years. It was time for a bigger and better appliance and this one is BIG... make sure you have counter space. So far every batch of rice I've made with the zojirushi has been perfect including white, brown, basmati, and mixed. I still want to try using it with other grains like quinoa, and I want to make a cake in it because it says you can. The rice cooker is easy to set and works its magic quietly until the rice is done when it plays a cute little tune (not necessary but funny). Be careful when you open the lid because the steam is slightly pressurized and comes out in a blazing hot cloud! I got a steam burn on my hand the first time I used it but that was completely my fault. One great feature is how rice stays at the perfect temperature and humidity inside the cooker so you can serve fantastic rice for hours without it getting dry or crunchy. A couple of times I've forgotten that there was still rice in the cooker and gone to bed only to discover in the morning that the rice is still perfect, even when the cooker has turned off over night. Love it! Read more

I apparently never had perfectly cooked rice before ordering this Zojirushi. I was indifferent to slightly opposed to rice, but I needed something to accompany my Chinese meat dishes. This rice cooker has single-handedly changed my opinion toward rice. I love the ease of use of the cooker and love the rice even more. The rice comes out with a pleasant texture that I cannot find anywhere else. The timer feature is immensely helpful in that I can program it to start just before I arrive home so that my rice is finished as the meat course is coming off the stove. In the case that my meat course takes longer than expected (or my ability to correctly enter the time in the timer fails), the warm feature keeps warm rice without drying it out. I have again and again sung the praises of my Zojirushi. Read more

I have had several of the cheaper on/off rice cookers. They worked ok for white rice, but anything else - forget it. Even with white rice, the bottom consistently got crusty and brown. The stay warm features on those types of cookers have a tendency to run too hot, thus scalding the bottom layer. Now I have a Zojirushi! I rinse some rice in the morning throw it in the Zoji, throw in a little butter and sea salt, set the timer and I am done! Any type of rice! I have cooked Jasmine, Basmati, Brown, Wild, Sticky, and various blends - all of them PERFECT every time. My mom taught me the secret to better rice is to let it soak (especially sticky) before you cook it. This is made so easy because once you've added the rice and set the timer, it soaks all day. I love that you set the timer for when you want the rice to BE READY, not when you want it to start cooking. That way, I can time the rice perfectly to coincide with dinner - brilliant! The ONLY CON: Is that the display battery (used to power the clock when the unit is unplugged) is soldered onto the circuit board. So, unless you are a big do-it-yourselfer and want to crack open your Zoji, you will have to send it to a service center for a new battery. I think this is a very unfortunate characteristic. How difficult would it have been to put the battery in a regular compartment on the side or underneath? Such as you see for a radio, alarm clock or toy. The battery would be easily accessable and replacable by the owner. Hence 4 stars, not 5. Read more

It does take forever on the regular setting, but the rice turns out perfect. I haven't yet tried the "quick cook" setting. The parts that need to be cleaned are easy to take apart or get to. Just don't lose the "cup" they send with it -- like everyone else is saying, it's not a normal sized measuring cup, and all the recipes are based on that size. Oh, yeah...don't do what I did. I'm lucky I didn't burn the product up and my house down. This thing ships with a piece of paper underneath the cooking pot inside the unit. Be sure to remove the pot and remove the paper. I just wiped the inside of the unit out and didn't remove the pot. Found it when I cleaned the unit after the first use. Might have had something to do with the cooking time, come to think of it. had our 10 cup (white with orchid design) since 1987, good reliable rice maker and doesn't burn the bottom in warm. and this is one is even better. regardless of where it's made, still a great product. UPDATE: found out this product was Made in China. it was great in the beginning in 2011. but nowadays in 2014, after the second day it burns the sidewalls in warming mode. not too happy about this, so I just ordered another rice cooker from another maker and will see how that will work out. I read lots of reviews before purchasing and finally picked this one. I was hoping this one could turn ordinary cheap rices into tasty ones, but it didn't work that way. It does produce good results consistently for various rice choices but I would contribute that to the water level marks in the bowl. If you control your water level correctly, you can have the same result with the ordinary rice cooker. My previous $30 costco cooker will do as well as this one. Easy clean is a plus. Read more
