The funky smell is worth the results!

ZabbyJune 21, 2019✓ Verified purchase

I really like this powder. I previously used Lush’s caca noir and found that this product is much more affordable and has a better result. It’s a messy process, especially the first few times you do it. The instructions on the package are easy to follow, just make sure you are slow when adding water. If it’s too thin you’ll have an even bigger mess! If you want to cover gray hair you must use henna first then indigo making it a two step process. The indigo alone doesn’t stick to my grays. I have naturally dark brown hair and this lasts for several months and fades very naturally. I always get a lot of compliments after using it. Be sure to put Vaseline around your hair line and ears so that you don’t stain your skin. I’d also recommend having a good amount of conditioner on hand for when you rinse it out. My hair is curly and it does get quite tangled when using this product so I wash it out a few times then condition a few times and comb it out with conditioner still in. My hair goes just past my shoulder blades and one pack is the perfect amount to cover all of it. ***updated*** I have started mixing the henna and indigo together to avoid a two step process and it works very well. I use half a package of the henna and mix it and let it sit for at least 8 hours, then add in half a package of indigo and more liquid and put it all on at once. It actually makes the indigo easier to go on (it doesn’t get as crumbly when mixed with the henna) and it’s saves so much time. The color comes out beautifully. Read more

Great alternative to dye

FlojoNovember 28, 2025✓ Verified purchase

The powders were great. The reason for the purchase was because I get a bad reaction from conventional dyes. These powders have covered my grey and I did not have any reaction. I will continue to use them. Read more

My henna indigo review

Dee DeeJuly 21, 2024✓ Verified purchase

My Henna and Indigo review I am a 1st time henna user. I decided to try henna because the other hair colors were making my hair dry. Also my locs were breaking. I haven't colored in 8 months. So hoping the henna can provide good grey coverage as well as be healthier for my hair. I'm listing the steps below and adding pictures to be as helpful as possible to anyone who is also new to trying this. I only did my roots as I was unsure of the results. Step 1: mix 1/3 of the 100 mg packet with warm water. Let it sit overnight . Step 2: 10 a.m. next morning add almost the full packet of 100 m.g. indigo and mix with hot water. See pictures for ho much of each packet I used, and what the mixture looked like at this point. Step 3: I let the mixture sit for 2 hours. See picture of the mixture after 2 hours. At 12.15 I used Vaseline around the edges on my face to protect my skin from the color. I then dampened my roots with warm water. Hoping this would help the henna better absorb than on dry hair. I applied the mixture generously to my roots. See picture of my roots before coloring. Step 4: when all my roots were saturated I use a small trash back to cover my hair. This was better than a cap because my hair has gotten thick and long. Step 5. I kept the mixture in from 1 p.m. until 7: 30 p.m. I then rinsed the mixture out with warm water. See picture of my hair after henna color. I allowed my hair to sit overnight and into the next day. I did not use shampoo or conditioner yet because all of the tutorials I had read before warned against washing with products to soon after henna dye. Step 5: the next day at 4 p.m. I washed my hair with conditioner. Then a small mix of shampoo and conditioner. Then i shampoo and the end aging because i could still feel the henna. See picture of my groomed hair. Side picture as well. I used a very soft loc gel to groom my hair, as I read a few warnings about adding oil/ oily products too soon. My thoughts about dying with henna • I got pretty decent coverage after sitting for 6.5 hours. The sides where my greys are prominent seemed to be more a dark brown shade. It got darker as it dried. I decided to apply the henna mix I saved to the sides and front of my hair. I slept overnight with it. Maybe next time I should lower the ratio of henna to indigo. Or use lemon juice/black teas as suggested elsewhere. • I would not put the henna mix on the rest of my locs. The mixture was thick and hardened in my hair. It was hard to wash out. I'm not sure how successful I would be removing it from locs. Maybe I will have better luck when I wash with conditioner and shampoo, as my hair is till sludgy. Will update. • The mix really smells. Will consider adding oils I have seen mentioned next time to help with the smell. • Overall it was ok. My hair was colored. More red in the mix than I wanted. I have to adjust henna to indigo ratio. My sides that are more grey, definitely were more redish brown. But I'm ok, as long as my greys are covered I can try again and hopefully get a better dark color. Hope this helps. Read more

Bad Batch?? This has never happend before....:(

Gi-Gi-22May 31, 2018✓ Verified purchase

I fully intended to leave a great review as I normally love/don't have any problems with this brand. However, this time it simply did not do it's job in the least, meaning it did absolutely nothing for my hair. I thought I had perhaps done something wrong the first time (I normally mix the Indigo with a certain portion of Henna to achieve a dark brown color, but instead I ended up with the "bronzey/organge" henna color (so instead of grey roots, I now have orange roots...not cool). . The second time (today), I decided to activate the indigo separately to ensure the dye was releasing. Guess what? To my surprise, the indigo never released it's color (meaning, it's been over an hour (usually takes only 10-15 min) and the powder (mixed with ACV (as I have been doing for years) is still it's original GREEN color. My guess is that instead of Indigo, I may have been sent some mis-packaged Henna (Henna takes hours to release it's color). Needless to say, this is very disappointing. Read more

Did not cover my hair completely

PaulAugust 9, 2025✓ Verified purchase

It works somewhat but didn't cover my hair completely. It did cover my grays but my hair ended up being two-tones. I only used the henna and not the indigo because I was so disappointed in how the henna did not do what it was supposed to do Read more

OUTSTANDING RESULTS!!!

E. SpatesMay 3, 2025✓ Verified purchase

I use Henna because I developed a severe allergy to hair color. Everyone keeps asking how long does the color last. I purchased the Henna/Indigo on 01/23/2025 and now it's time to color it again. I'm African American, with a relaxed (chemical treatment) short pixie cut hair style. The gray is showing on the edges by my ear and somewhat on the top. Yes, Henna is messy (like making a mud pie on your head...use a plastic shower cap) I added lemon juice to the henna mixture. I wanted good color so I kept the henna for the recommended amount of time. I also added lemon juice to the Indigo mixture and allowed it to remain in place longer than the time recommended. The rich black color was OUTSTANDING. I rinsed the mixture out only with water, don't use any shampoo. I went to the salon after 1 week and had a protein treatment done because the product is drying to the scalp. My color held for over 3 months plus. Read more
