Nice camera! Good quality video and sound, especially at 1440 or 1512 settings. Waterproof, solid construction, and long battery life. Disappointed that EIS limits video to 1080. However, haven’t noticed a big difference using EIS, as at 1440 the video is much better than 1080 with EIS. The included magnet mount is strong, but is a little heavy when camera is attached. Cannot delete videos or pics on the camera without attaching to a computer, as this is a security camera that I’m using as an action camera. Not a big deal because I will be editing the videos anyway. Customer support is good as I had a few questions and they answered quickly. Update: Asked seller for help as I am fabricating an additional mount for the camera. Great customer service! Read more
The media could not be loaded. I live in a 55+ community. It is my custom, after dinner, to go for a 4 1/2 mile walk to help me digest and get to sleep. I do this daily unless the weather does not cooperate. Much of my daily walk takes place along a major route and I cross a few major intersections. Unfortunately, there are a lot of inattentive drivers that do not look for pedestrians and will just turn a corner without looking. The traffic signal on the other side of the intersection with display a green "walk" sign but the vehicle to my left will just whip around the corner without looking to see if anyone is crossing. This happens a lot. I have taken to wearing a reflective vest and an LED light (both purchased from Amazon) to make it easier to see me, but that has not made a huge difference. I felt the need to get a bodycam of some sort so that if there were an unfortunate incident, I would have evidentiary proof of what happened. The first bodycam I purchased was a cheapie, about $20, (I won't mention the brand) and it was better than having no camera, but not by much. Video quality was poor and there was no electronic image stabilization, but it was better than nothing. It also started disintegrating less than a month after purchase. I am telling you about this unnamed camera since I am including some video taken with it in comparison to the quality of video I got out of my new bodycam, the ponycam (yes, they do not capitalize the "p" in the name) 1512P HD Body Camera with EIS. Although not perfect, the ponycam is a substantial improvement over the cheap camera I purchased previously. The ponycam 1512P comes with some nice features. I selected the unit with 128GB of storage. You can get one with only 64GB for about $16 less but it is not removable or replaceable. It comes with a USB Data Cable. Well... I guess I must clarify this. I am doing a review of my SECOND ponycam 1512P HD body camera. You see, the first camera came with a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and connecting to your computer but the camera, itself, had only one USB port and it was a Mini-USB port which was totally incompatible with the provided cable. Doh! I contacted Customer Service and, after an hour trying to explain the issue, they authorized a return and sent me another one to arrive the next day. The second one I got also had only one USB port but that one was a USB-C port. I emailed the distributor in China about the issue and, after a couple of days, they wrote me back and confirmed that there were some earlier units that did have the Mini-USB port and apologized for the mix-up and that if Amazon wasn't able to take care of the issue, they would send a replacement. So, I cannot guarantee that the unit you get, although both versions are identical in every other way, and should you decide to purchase one, will have a USB-C port but both Amazon and the distributor should make things right. Besides the bodycam and the USB data cable, it also comes with a power adapter, user guide, an alligator style clip which locks onto the bodycam, and a magnetic mount. I prefer the magnetic mount over the regular clip. It works impressively well. It comes in 2 parts. One half is connected to the back of the bodycam (also covering most of the LCD screen) and the other half you put inside your shirt, jacket, etc., and slowly bring the side connected to the camera toward the half in your shirt and once you get close enough, the two halves snap together magnetically with a solid grip. The LCD screen on the ponycam is not a touchscreen. You access the various functions, including playback of videos or reviewing photos, via push buttons. On the top of the ponycam are a black button and a red button. Push the black button to take a still photo and push the red button to turn on video recording. Push the red button again to turn off video recording. As far as video quality, I can confirm that it does have electronic image stabilization and HD resolution. There is excellent color and nice detail in the videos. They recommend using VLC to watch the videos. I have included photos of what you get and a comparison of video quality. I am also including photos comparing the first ponycam with the Mini-USB port to the second one with the USB-C port. They are exactly the same except for the ports. Just a few more things to discuss. The EIS does not completely eliminate bodycam shaking when walking. The video may be perfectly steady when you are standing still, but if you are walking, it is going to shake. EIS is not the same as using a gimble. The videos I shot for the comparison were done where I lived and I was wearing some cheap shoes with virtually no cushioning. When walking on the concrete sidewalk, every step I took, the impact went directly from my feet, through my body, to the bodycam. Not seen in the video is a test I did wearing superior shoes with nice cushioning that reduces the impact of walking. I did notice an improvement in the image stabilization while wearing the better shoes. There still was visible shaking, but definitely better than wearing cheap shoes, so take that into consideration when using the ponycam or any other bodycam. I would also agree that if you are watching the videos on the LCD screen of the ponycam, the shaking isn't as obvious, but if you are watching them on a large screen, it is very noticeable. I am of the belief that anything I review starts with 5 stars if it does what it says it will do and there aren't any negative issues. I also take into account how much value you get for the price. I looked at a lot of ads for a new bodycam. the ponycam, in its price range, was the only one with electronic image stabilization. That's a plus. On the other hand, they packed the wrong USB cable for the first unit I got which makes me question the manufacturer's quality control. Customer service was good from both Amazon and the manufacturer. The video that was on Amazon demonstrating the EIS in action of a vehicle showed virtually no shaking but it did not show the quality of the EIS when worn as a pedestrian, probably because the EIS wouldn't have looked as good. I have had an opportunity to take a few 4 1/2 mile walks using the ponycam. It does a good job, but not a perfect job. I can't give it 5 stars but, based on value, the obvious improvement over the cheap bodycam I had been using, and the excellent color and detail in the videos I have taken, I will give this unit 4 stars out of 5. Pros: - It has electronic image stabilization. - Excellent colors in recorded videos and nice detail. - The magnetic mount is amazingly good! - LCD menu on camera covers all functions including playback. Cons: - First unit I got had the wrong charging cable in it. - Video taken while walking still are shaky. - LCD on camera is not touchscreen. Read more
I had spent hours watching YouTube videos to gain some knowledge about body cams. There are many options out there but one thing that stood out for me was, Image stability. There were very few that actually had Image Stabilization and if you notice on some videos the video playbacks were very shaky ( make you nauseous just watching it). This unit has this feature and it actually works well. Image quality is great,Night vision is great. It lit up a dark room as if it was daylight. Wide angle view is impressive. Battery life is impressive. Ease of use is a 8/10. It does take some time to get used to but it isn't complicated, some buttons have dual functions. I love that it comes with ALL the accessories you'll ever need to carry this unit on your clothing, whether you have pockets or not. Magnetic accessories is amazingly strong. I did read in one of the reviews that it was not possible to erase content from the unit directly, but after some thought I realized that this was actually a good thing as it provides more security and less tampering if someone else besides yourself were to have gotten access to your camera. Data cable included made it easy to access information on the unit when connected to ANY operating system. I had to purchase an additional accessory, an adopter, for my tablet which only had a usb-C port. I tried to access the unit with my Android phone but to no luck...only tablets and computers. The unit fell from my clothing once, because I didn't attach it properly to my pocket, and to my surprise it barely had a scratch. Unit isn't big or heavy. Overall I am happy with my purchase, for what it cost, it was a great deal (coupon was an attractive bonus). Read more
