I have bought three or four different brands of long cotton swabs trying to find some that worked to clean my doodle ‘s ears. She has HAIRY ears that require special attention to keep ear infections at bay. Her ears have a lot of discharge and we have to carefully clean the outer ear canal every time we bathe her and sometimes even in between baths. The buildup is thick, sticky and smelly if we don’t keep it at bay. All the other swabs I bought were so skinny that it took upwards of 10 swabs each time, which felt wasteful and also just is annoying to try to hold her still and keep reaching for more swabs. These are nice and thick and not only get the job done more quickly, but it also seem like it’s more comfortable for her since there’s more “cushioning.” Note these are way too big to fit in my maltipoo’s outer ear canal, so they’re not for little dogs but big dogs only. Also note you should NEVER attempt to clean any further than the outer canal, which is basically the surface area opening of the ear. Never try to insert a swab deeper in the canal—that should only ever be done by a veterinarian under special circumstances. The length of these simply makes it easier to grip and should not be considered a way to get deeper in the ear. In addition to a good price and good quality, these also came in a nice little storage container that snaps shut and is refillable. I got this pack of large cotton swabs to use on my dog, and am very happy with them so far. These are much bigger and more sturdy than the regular cotton swabs I usually use. The swabs are large, very absorbent, and a good length for what I need. The bamboo handles also feel flexible and not as brittle as other long swabs I’ve tried, which helps me worry less about them snapping if my dog moves. These larger cotton swabs are perfect for use on my larger dogs ears, they are just a little big to use on my smaller dogs. The wood handle is thin and has no splinters to catch into their ears and swab is a sorbant enough to clean out any cleaning fluid and debris.
