If you aren't particular about getting a perfectly razor sharp knife this unit will do just fine. You do have the benefit of dialing in the blade angle, which is nice. I am, however, not enamored with the coarse setting. Yes, it will remove enough metal to reshape the edge to allow more refined sharpening. But at times it removed a bit too much in spots, resulting in an uneven edge. But if you have knives that are reasonably sharp and you don't want to let them get dull, the other settings will help keep your knives reasonably sharp. Read more
