Not good for mycology purposes.
Definitely full of impurities. I use agar for making petri dishes and I have gotten many types of agar off Amazon and none of them are lab grade by any means. This product is the only one that actually states it's food grade. If you are planning on using this for mycology I would look elsewhere. Even for food purposes there are very apparent impurities and the agar does not break down all the way in boiling water. There are certainly cleaner options available for similar pricing. UPDATE: Im giving this a one star (previously two) because I taste tested the petri dishes I made. I used 10g of agar powder to 500ml water. Typically the agar I have used in the past has a very mild and almost non existent taste. This agar didn't completely solidify and instead turned into a very odd consistency of gel. When i did the taste test I put one of the poured dishes into my mouth and it was like taking a jello shot of seawater. I wouldn't even use this stuff to make food products with. Very unhappy with the quality of this product. I got a returnless refund from Amazon and tossed it in the trash. Read more
