I must admit, my initial impression was disappointment with this kit since the razor felt a bit insubstantial, the shaving cream amount small, and any lack of manly scent to the cream and lotion. However, I now get it and am converted. This kit offers a reasonable value for what you get. The safety razor is very effective and easy to clean (no idea why people need 5 blades), a toothpaste amount of cream will fully lather my face, and the pre-shave conditioning oil and aftershave lotion work well. I do find that the brush and bowl are not needed as itβs easy to just lather the cream up between you hands. I have a full beard and typically shave my neck and cheeks with my beard trimmer. In the past couple months of using this kit I have not bothered. This is a fast and effective way to shave, safety razors for the win! I shave with this 2x a week and surmise Iβll have enough product for at least a few more months. Read more

My partner has a beard most of the year, but does do the clean shaven look from June through September. He has different methods for each look, so I ordered this in the hope that it could help him to achieve whatever he was going for regardless of season. This set has products suitable for either look. I especially like the use of the "beard bib." 4 stars for the sheer pleasure of not having to deal with all those little hairs all over the bathroom sink any more. He liked the shave oil and still uses that, said the shaving cream and brush and bowl was not for him (prefers his favorite brand) and that it was too messy and takes too long to deal with and he "doesn't have time for all that." The razor was a big giant "no" because he claims his dad told him when he was a young man beginning to shave that such a razor was far too sharp and unforgiving to the curves on man's face but if he enjoyed wearing red toilet paper dots on his face to go ahead. He would not even try it. Said his dad was right and he'd tried one in the service and while he didn't wear red dots of toilet paper, he learned about a styptic pencil. The after shave smells nice and he has it in the rotation still. I examined these before he tried them and I feel this is a really nice set. I do worry about razor type, though. Most young men I know who shave either use an electric, a straight razor, or have disposable razors that pivot and have glide strips on them and such. I really don't know a man who even uses a razor like this. Read more

Overall this kit seems like decent quality and value. There's a lot of stuff for currently $26. Personally, I'd call it a starter/intro kit, more for a teenager or as a novelty/trial kit for an adult to see if they like shaving this way vs. electric or a multi-blade razor. The bowl seems to be stainless steel, which is a nice quality material, although the bowl is light and rounded on the bottom with a flat center, so it is easy to tip or knock around. For me, definitely need two hands to use the brush and hold the bowl still. I've usually seen bowls with squared bottom edges, or with weighted bottoms, or with a bowl holder to keep it from tipping. I'm not sure what the brush bristles are made of (natural animal hair of some sort vs. synthetic), but it's soft and long enough. You wouldn't use the apron for shaving. It would be used if you're using trimmers. It'll catch most of the hair, but some can fly beyond the sides of the apron or go between the apron and mirror, especially short stubble. It really needs 1-2 more suction cups to hold the middle up and closer to the mirror. Be sure to shake it out well in a shower or bath tub, or else you'll drop stubble around. Overall it does help contain trimming mess though. The creams and oil are advertised as cedar scent, but to me the shaving cream and oil smell like light vanilla, and the after shave cream has no added scent; smells like plain skin lotion. The razor seems fine. It's all metal and opens and closes easily. It's easier to cut yourself with a razor like this than a multi-blade disposable razor or multi-blade disposable cartridge. If you find that you cut yourself a lot with this, don't give up on this style of razor. There's a big difference in different razors in terms of how much blade sticks out and at what angle. Personally, I found this to be a bit prone to cutting skin, but could just be how I'm holding it. I see what looks like the exact same kit for sale with different brands on it, at varying prices. This one is the least expensive that I saw. There's also versions without the bowl, or without the razor, or with a straight razor instead. Read more
