I bought two of these, for my 6 year old and for my one year old. i originally bought one for the 6 year old so she could do yoga with me and she loves it and actually participates in my morning yoga! The one year old instantly wanted it as soon as she knew she could play on it. we have hard wood floors so its great for yoga, meditation, and even play time. Once i seen how good the qaulity of the mat was, and how much she liked it, i decided to get the second mat. It had a slight smell but not harsh. anytime i get it out she will just lay on it and play and roll around, she loves it! its just the right thickness, the material is easily cleaned, we've had them outside and everything! Worth so much more than the price! I believe our little one was 2 when we got this. She loves watching Cosmic Kids Yoga and we thought this would be a hit. She's now (age 3) taken a liking to sitting with a parent once a day to learn about the cards and yoga positions. The mat is her prized possession and she does not like us moving it lol It has helped her learn responsibility as she wants to keep it clean and in tact - she wants to be the one to roll it out every morning for yoga and roll it back up every night to put it away safely. She recently has started going to her yoga mat independently when she's becoming tired or frustrated. When she's doing yoga she will let us know to leave her be to focus on her yoga by saying "Shh, yoga time now" When she's done she will bring her hands to her heart and say "Namaste" then stand up and look at us and say "Ok, all done yoga" I originally bought it because I figured if anything it was cute and could be a good test idea.
