This little tool has worked wonders on sharpening my scissors. I didn't think this would be possible , especially on my very old scissors. I was very much surprised and pleased.. They are better than new! I have spent so much on scissors in the past I figured I would give this a try. Much to my surprise, I am SURPRISED! and for the price it is well worth the investment. Tried three other shear sharpeners before this one. None of the expensive, professional sharpeners worked. These worked wonderfully. Sharpened the shears quickly and easily. They are now sharper than when they were new. Read more

It works great. I had a different brand of sharpener and learned that they eventually wear out from the friction caused by the scissors. They’ve been saving me a fortune by not having to buy new scissors every time they get dull. Read more

Does not work at all. Followed directions exactly but saw no improvement in my scissors cutting ability. Would not recommend. Read more

I had, apparently, very blunt scissors, because it took many passes to get them sharpened… somewhat. The instructions and diagram are great. However in my case it didn’t work out exactly as described. The first time I tried sharpening a small kitchen-utility pair of scissors, it didn’t do much. I repeated with many more strokes, and made a little progress. The scissors were used several times to cut through a large dish sponge that had sand-paper-like layers on top and bottom. I think this material really dulled my scissors considerably. Also, I think the paper cutting test is a good suggestion, but in my case not the perfect test. When I tried paper - it cut through smoothly like butter, however when I attempted to cut thin plastic (such as plastic disposable tablecloth) it failed miserably. The plastic just fold between the blades and nothing happens. Also with plastic wrapping of food packaging, which is a main object of cutting with these particular scissors, the sharpened scissors performed a little better than the thin plastic tablecloth, but it also struggled to do the task. It depended on the thickness of the bag. Too thin or too thick - it didn’t work. Somewhere in between, it did. I went through another session of sharpening today and now it seems to be much better. But I certainly had to go through many more strokes than suggested in the instructions. The diagram on how to hold the scissors while sharpening is good, however I found that I had to hold it more open and at a slightly wider angle between the two blades in order to get the very inner part sharpened. Also, I did the sharpening on a piece of scrap paper and moved the operation to be far away from the kitchen. The metal shavings, to me, are a hazard if too close to food or food utensils or surfaces (table or counter). I’ll try it out next time with another pair of scissors that have normal wear-and-tear to see how it performs. Thank you for this invention and tool. It is great to know I can hold on to a beloved pair of scissors. Read more

So I see where others are saying that this isn't working on their scissors. If directions are read and followed, I promise, it's going to work unless you've dulled your scissors beyond all hope. My husband likes to cut everything with my scissors, even though I've told him what it can do to them. I've even had to hide my fabric scissors from him. I left a cheap pair in the kitchen for him to try cutting things. They got super dull, super fast. Today, I decided to try this shear sharpener on them and I wasn't expecting a whole lot. To my surprise, they are sharp again - but you have to read and follow directions. It's not like a knife sharpener, where you put the blade perfectly vertical. You have to angle the scissor blade so it lies flat against the sharpener- or it's not going to work and, will more than likely ruin your scissors, if done incorrectly. I'm happy with my purchase and am glad that I won't have to keep buying new scissors as often. Read more

I purchased this gadget in order to try to sharpen my Henkel kitchen scissors. Kitchen scissors are indispensable to me and mine had become dull and useless. It took a few tries until I got the needed angle of the sharpener just right then I sharpened away! Lo and behold, my scissors just cut through cardboard! I am impressed. Note that I used a sharpening steel very lightly after I sharpened the scissors and it seems to have increased the sharpness. If you don't have a sharpening steel, don't sweat it. This gadget alone will sharpen your scissors. PS. While I was at it I took every other scissors in the house and sharpened them as well. Even a pair of extremely poor quality scissors I had in a drawer have never been so sharp!! lol Read more
