Attached to front and back of vest easily with Velcro. Two side straps ensure a snug fit. I have only used during workout and faster paced walking but no running. Wonderful weighted vest, gives you that extra burn when working out. Worth it easy to order, arrives on time. Sandbag weights can be removed fitted in their individual snug pouch- you want it this way if it were loose and you were running they would be all over the place.
