This dress is absolutely beautiful! Excellent quality fabric and well made. I am 5’8” tall and normally wear size 12/14 (L). I purchased a size 14 in this dress. It comes all the way to the floor on me. If you are between sizes like me, I would recommend sizing down. It is true to size, but does have nice give. A size 12 would have been better for me. I purchased this for my mom to wear for the Captain's dance on her cruise and to wear to a wedding. She is a "larger" (Size 12) petite woman, and this dress looks simply AMAZING on her. The fit is absolutely perfect, as the top is slightly stretchy, and the A-line style is very flattering (and forgiving) for her figure. The quality is great as usual (and expected) of the Alex Evenings dresses. This is the fourth Alex Evenings dress I have bought for her, and she has loved every one of them. I ordered literally at least a dozen dresses this time for her to choose from, and she tried on several. Once she saw the color of this and tried it on, she KNEW this was IT. Love the fit and feel of the dress. The fabric did have some give. I am size 18-20 and the 18 was just a little snug by looking in the mirror, but was still really comfortable. The problem: I thought the sparkle was from a metallic thread interwoven. It was actually fine glitter… I had purple glitter from the bedroom to the kitchen unfortunately. As this was a MOG dress, I could not see covering my son or my new DIL with glitter that would show up randomly in pictures. Had to return. SELLER: the shipping was a couple weeks I think, but the RETURN WAS A BREEZE! Some of the other nightmare ‘free’ returns I've had to deal with on these types of dresses is not free and you don’t get your money back. I bought this dress because I wasn’t at all sure my first choice was going to arrive before my son’s wedding. So glad I did! That first dress did arrive in time, but THIS dress was so much lovelier! My sister-in-law is an amazing seamstress, who altered it for me (it was too big when it arrived). I’ve never worn ANYTHING that inspired so many compliments! My husband ran out of adjectives! Order your regular size. When I was shopping for my Mother of the Groom dress, I was noticing how very many of them were intended to be sexy. Hello, I’m his *stepmother*, and besides, there should only be one sexy woman at a wedding! Old-fashioned? Maybe. But the reason I chose this one (and the first one) is that it’s beautiful in an understated way. It isn’t sequined or beaded. The shimmer is woven into the fabric of the bodice and jacket. A nice result is that the fabric isn’t stiff. It flows. I couldn’t tell that from the online photos; I thought the jacket was going to be stiff, but my SIL lobbied hard for it Turns out, she had seen her neighbor in this exact dress, so she knew! I’m so grateful that I took her advice!! I do recommend having it altered to fit your shape best. This was my first experience of having clothing tailored (hemming doesn’t count!), but it won’t be my last! I look forward to my next opportunity to wear this beauty! Perfect in every way. Lovely drapey satin skirt, flexible fit and comfortable all afternoon outside on a very warm afternoon. Also shipped with a hangar and bag in a flat box so steaming/ironing needs were minimal.
