This portable air conditioner works great. I cools my bedroom within minutes and keeps it comfortable. I like the swing slat setting so they move up and down to circulate the cool air. The hose is long enough but it did fall our twice but we were able to fix it so it stayed in. It's bigger than I thought but that is okay. Filters are easy to get to and the remote works well. Noise is a little loud but no more than a normal window or wall air conditioner and after a while it is just background noise. For the price, it is a really good portable air conditioner. Read more

This is a good unit for cooling a small area. It is not a whole house unit. It needs to be properly vented for which the parts are provided. Make sure you tighten the exhaust duct on the unit before installing it in a window. You may have to secure the duct adaptor to the window panel with screws. Finally I recommend, if needed, a heavy duty short, 12 gauge extension cord be used. Read more

You need to understand the dual BTU ratings. The lower rating provides a better description of the unit's effectiveness. It is easy to install but the window vent doesn't provide a very tight seal. When the compressor is running it's fairly loud. Works well for our large bed room. It would be easy to roll it to rooms on the same floor. Not as efficient as a window unit. Costs as much or more than a similar sized window unit Read more

I got the 10k btu unit for my 12x12 bedroom. Our upstairs a/c went out shortly after replacing the downstairs unit. Of course the protection plan we have only covers 1 unit replacement for the lifetime of the policy. Of course, upstairs is where all the bedrooms are, and heat rises, and my room is on the westernmost corner of the house. I live in Southern California, but inland enough to be considered practically the desert. Translation: my room is an oven...even at night. Now that we're heading into our second summer with no air, I got tired of being hot and angry every night, and decided to do something about it. Now, I'm no mechanic, but I'm smart enough to figure out how to put a bookshelf or dining room set together out of a box. Plus, I have a dad. Lol. So I started out small and cheap, thinking i could get one of those swamp cooler type boxes that fit on your table from the infomercials for 30 bucks. But, if course, being a smart daughter, I asked my dad for his opinion 1st. Long story short, he said it would be too small to be effective, as I would have to refill the water tray too often. He told me to try a full sized swamp cooler, or air evaporation unit. Ok. On to Amazon I go. 3 hours of research and reviews later, I became worried that this swamp cooler may not actually cool my room to my standards. Basically, it would be like putting a bandaid on a broken arm, and the cost for one that I liked was almost $300. Almost every review I read, said it was nothing like an a/c unit. Next day, decided to look at a/c units. After another few hours of research and reviews, I stumbled across this beauty and made the decision. The box arrived on time, and wasn't too hard to transport up the stairs with the help of a friend, but you will need the help of a friend. Once I got the unit out of the box, everything was basically intact. The piece that goes in the window that the hose connects to was cracked, but it was no big deal to me, as the way it sits in the window will pretty much keep everything in place on it's own. If not, a little tape would do the trick. I was surprised how few pieces there were for assembly. Batteries in the remote. Panel in the window. Snap one end of the hose. Slide and twist the other side of the hose. Power on. Within 1 hour, I was iced out. Cold and happy again. Life is good. The sound is a little bit louder than a fan, but about the same amount of noise of sitting next to any central air unit, if you're close enough. Idk about you, but I'll take turning the volume on my TV up a little over sitting in my bed sweating any day. I've seen some complaints about the unit not shutting off one the optimal temp is reached. The unit does not shut off, but it will switch to fan only mode, and then turn the a/c back on when it gets too hot. Last, but not least, the unit is sleek and attractive. No complaints at all. I'm recommending this unit to all the rest of my family members. Read more

It sounds like a airplane in the house. It's not working correctly. I brought the white one 3 years ago for my bedroom;that's twice the size of the living room with cathedral ceilings. We have to turn the TV up extremely high to drown out the sound of the air conditioner that doesn't cool down the room. I don't recommend it. To expensive not to work properly. Read more

The inconspicuous size belies how effective it is. Not as noisy and true to Amana's reputation, very robust looking but nicely designed. Cools a decent size room in minutes. So far, very satisfied with my purchase. Updated review (06/2025): Bought product 2023, worked well till recently and started blowing hot air. This after cleaning the coil and filters. Tried getting some help from.bith whirlpool and AMA but to no avail. Read more

Picked up Model #AMAP121AB-2) for our spare guest room. Unit was packaged very well, no scuffs, dings, dents, cracks, or damage. Not overly packed either. I can't stand needing to make a dump run because there is so much foam, cardboard, and crap that comes with packaging. Compared to any other "portable" AC unit I've used, this one seems to be a work horse. It moves a nice amount of air, blew cool air VERY quickly, and was not overly loud. It's not a silent unit by any means, but about what you would expect from a stand alone unit. Install was easy, instructions were sufficient, included items were fine. The control panel and remote are sleek and easy to use. If I had to wave a magic wand, I'd like to see bigger wheels for it to make it easier to wheel around on the carpet. But that's if I'm being really picky. So far, no complaints, and I can't find any reason not to give this anything but 5 stars. Read more

It only fit into one side of the window. it had to be cut to get a piece attached to the right side to stablelize it. I had to do other things because there were to many openings. the window does not seal the window unit so I had to devise methods to close off gaps. I doubt any units like this will be the same. The reason is that one piece slides into the other. Being the outter piece is higher there is a gap on the top and bottom of the inner piece. I solved that with a piece of card board bent on the top and bottom and duct taped it on. The other side I used paper towles. The Unit it self works Great. I thought I got the 12,000 BTU but got the 10,000 btu. It still does a great job. I have a 600 sq ft Apt and it cooled the whole place down. So far so good.. Read more
