I did a LOT of research over a two month period before purchasing this topper. I wanted something supportive that would not make me feel entombed, so a 3"-4" topper of 4-5lb density was the obvious choice. Dream DNA's products kept coming up as my most-liked, so the decision was finally between 4lb or 5lb, with their 3.75"/4lb version finally being chosen -- however, I will very likely be adding a 2-3" 5lb topper below this one for even more support. The topper ships in a box and is quite heavy (as it should be). I suggest removing it from the box directly to the bed, and then unfurling it on the mattress. Some sections will be fully expanded and some will be very compressed. Once you unfold and position it, slide the plastic liner(s) off and allow it to expand. You may immediately notice that the topper is a bit smaller than the mattress -- about an inch or two in length and width. Don't fret; just let it expand and it will soon precisely fit the mattress length and width, eventually overlapping about an inch or two on the corners. (You can help it along by tugging gently on the sides and ends.) The instructions on the box say to let it expand for 96 hours, but 5 hours was all mine needed. There was no smell other than the weak, pleasant, "new product" scent. If, like me, you have never slept on memory foam before, you will notice the difference the fist time you do and it may take a few days to get used to it. The first two or three nights I definitely noticed the "sinking in" effect and would wake up from time to time because of it. After about the third or fourth night the "cloud" effect kicked in and I slept like a rock; and the most regrettable part of the day was getting out of bed, while the most anticipated was going to bed :-D The topper appears to get a bit softer after about two weeks -- but with no loss of support. If anything, it feels more comfortable. Also, one thing people comment/complain about with memory foam is heat. Yes, initially it seemed warmer, directly under the spot I was laying on, but that vanished around the same time the topper seemed to feel softer, which suggests that as the foam cells expanded heat retention was no longer an issue. In my initial research I almost chose a hybrid topper that had a 5lb lower and 4lb upper layer, but was only 2 inches thick, which did not seem sufficient. Dream DNA has a 2-3inch 5lb toppers as well, and I plan to add one of those for extra (albeit unnecessary) support below this one. But I will need a footstool to climb onto bed. :-) Finally, I definitely recommend a good, waterproof cover for it. This is an excellent, inexpensive one I also bought on: Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Hypoallergenic-Waterproof-Mattress-Protector/dp/B00A2G9VFM/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0XQ4MSZM8JYB2SY3BZ16 Read more
