American West Annies Secret Hobo Bag

This handbag is AMAZING! It is beautifully & meticulously crafted of leather with a sturdy cotton canvas lining. It has plenty of pockets for my cell phone, pens & a zipper pocket for items I want to keep secure. It's called Annie's Secret for a reason: The backside has a double zipper padded pouch for my firearm.The double zipper gives access for both a right-handed or left-handed person. I have been carrying my firearm with me in this bag ever since it arrived. There is NO outline of the firearm when in it's pouch. It is completely concealed, and the padding provides concealment as well as protection. Zippers are easy to use for quick access. The pouch is large enough to conceal my Ruger LCR or my Sig Sauer P938. Another thing I didn't realize when I purchased this gorgeous bag: Enclosed with it was a brochure about the company. It is owned by a woman! She knows what a woman wants in a handbag, and she designs them accordingly. I first became familiar with the company "American West" when I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico 18 years ago and purchased an American West checkbook cover from a local department store. I was hesitant about ordering a purse on line because I'm picky about the quality, size, etc. Very surprised when this arrived. The quality of leather is fantastic. It is also very light to carry. The one thing I don't like about some leather bags is that they are already heavy before you even start to load them up with stuff. Not so with this bag. The handle is adjustable and the zipper slides easily. It has some pockets on the inside that are convenient for your phone, etc. I'm seriously thinking of ordering another style from this company. Beautiful, quality purse. This is my 2nd American West - no issues with these purses. However, am disappointed with the conceal carry pocket. No "holster". What ever is placed there will be loose. The pocket is small, which is ok length and width-wise, but no depth. We'll see...maybe I'll change rating after using it for a while. Update 8/2014: I won't change my rating BUT - Now that I've used the purse for a while, I am ready to retire it to the closet. The strap drives me crazy. It will NOT stay on my shoulder, which is a pain for everyday use. It's so slippery I started to really look the purse over because it feels like plastic/vinyl and it looks like vinyl or fake leather and I was wondering if it was a counterfeit. The bottom, the strap and the tab pulls all seem slippery, and I'm not so sure about the entire purse! It doesn't smell like leather and it isn't weathering like other leather purses. I do own another American West @ around $250 in specialty shop - and have NO issues with that one! I would not recommend this style for conceal carry as the bag is too unstable. I prefer this one! I like this bag. However, the leather on the strap is very thin. Not the width of the strap but the leather itself. I don't think it will stand the test of time. In saying that, it is lighter than most of my other bags, which I like. I don't know why, but the strap falls off my shoulder more than usual. It gets aggravating sometimes i.e. walking through the mall I am re-hanging it on my shoulder every 2 minutes.. I got a great deal on this bag, and for the money I like it. It holds a lot without looking too bulky. If I paid retail price for it, I wouldn't be as happy with it. I'm glad I didn't order the more expensive one I liked as well until I got this one. I returned this bad because it had a faulty zipper pocket for the concealed compartment and you sure would not want that to be stuck when you needed it to open. Actually a concealed compartment should close with velcro instead of a zipper for that very reason. I thought the bag to be too small, the strap to short and it looked a lot cheaper than the price. This has got to be one of the most beautiful purses I have ever owned. I love leather purses and have several. The strap adjusts to a nice length. There is plenty of room on the inside with convenient pockets. I don't use the concealed compartment for carrying, I have an IWB holster for that. But it is a great place to put extra cash or whatever. The tooling is beautiful. I love the colors. Just can't say enough nice things about this purse. Read more
