This purse exceeds my expectations! I usually buy Cole Haan or Coach bags in this price range, but I decided I wanted something more casual this time. It's not as heavy duty as a Coach or Cole Haan case, but they don't make these fun, earthy kind of bags either. The leather is lightweight and soft, much more subtle than it appears when you receive it. This is the kind of bag that will get a patina with age. The color is beautiful, not too light, not too dark, making it a good three-season bag. It's a terrific size for my 5/4" frame, hanging nicely on my shoulder, even over a coat. It's not overwhelming so that it looks like you're running away from home, but even with the zipper top closed, it carries plenty: Small tablet, phone, wallet, sunglasses and emergency contact lens kit, assorted lipsticks, a mirror, gloves, and a small bottle of juice or container of yogurt. The outside pockets are handy and a nice size, big enough to hold my smartphone, but I don't like putting it there. It's not so western that you feel like you're impersonating a cowgirl, but it feels All American. If you need to go preppy/conservative for an event, you might want to switch to a basic black bag for the occasion. I have other American West handbags and this one is not the quality I was expecting. The top zipper is cheap and flimsy. The interior lining was plain black instead of the regular lining which is light colored with the American West logo on it. I think this looks like a knock off bag. I am not ordering any more of these. The color is nice and the style as well. It did not come with the usual dust bag either. I am going to give this away as a gift to someone. Read more

I have been looking at American West purses for a few years, and always wondered if they were really worth the money. Believe me, they are! They are very well constructed, I expect this purse will last a long time with proper care. The leather is excellent quality, and the leather work is beautiful. Really nice bag. It is just the right size for my MacBook Pro. I can't zip it but is much more functional for everyday use than my brief case. Stands up right with the computer and all my devices and wallet inside. Looks great too. Read more
