I started buying these filters to replace the cartridges for my GE inline water filter that has been discontinued. The line feeds water to my refrigerator's ice maker. I was skeptical they would work and concerned they would leak. However, to my surprise these work splendidly. They remove the chlorine taste from the ice cubes and do not reduce the water pressure to the ice maker. I have a new one shipped every six months so I do not forget to change it out, and they come with stickers to label the cartridge's expiration date. After reading the reviews, I decided to give this filter a try. The filter turned out to be good buy and yes, it has much better flow than the original. The filter has activated charcoal in it. When I first ran water through it to flush, you can see black coming out for a few seconds. The water tastes great, just like bottled water! One thing to be aware of though, you must make sure the O-ring seal is properly seated at the bottom of the cavity where the filter screws on to your particular unit. Mine arrived with the seal loose and flopping around in there. I used the end of the handle side of a teaspoon to push and guide the seal into proper position. If you make sure the O-ring is in proper position you should have no problem with leakage. It worked perfectly with my GE Smartwater undersink filter system. I will be buying this one again!
