AquaTeak The Original 15 5 Kai Corner Teak Shower Bench with Shelf

I got this seat because I needed it for the shower. I seen the reviews and compared over the competitors, I could have gotten a cheaper seat but the teak wood sold me and the reviews. The reason I needed this seat now is due falling down on the tile of my master bathroom 2 days ago and just living was a pain. Today I'm feeling a lot better but being on my feet more than 5 minutes is a chore. So I ordered this yesterday and got it today. I just got finished building it and took a shower. OMG! I was sitting on this seat thinking, where have you been all my adult life? I needed this. But on to my review... The seat comes in two pieces when delivered, I would highly recommend not getting it shipped in the manufactured packaging. It's a odd box big box and not heavy but not light either. Just due to the odd size it's going to be treated like crap by anyone who handles it. I rather have double protection than, oops it broke. It does have styrofoam on all four corners of the original packaging. Tbh, I thought it was all setup when I ordered it. But I probably didn't read the full description when I ordered this. All the hardware is already on the seat pieces. I wish all manifactures did this instead of hunting for the pieces and somehow find out either it's missing or you don't have enough in some cases. You just have to read the manual and follow it. It does include a rentch. The only thing I do recommend is for the left and right side legs is that they place a picture of a person standing in front of it and label L = left and R = Right. Not D, E, F, and whatever letter for the fourth leg. Yes, you need to follow the instructions because all the legs are different and not the same. I recommend this little update for the instructions and stickers cause people in general are dumb and/or lazy. I'm not saying the individual though. As for the wood. I use to be on the assembly line in manufacturing and we used wood. I can tell this is quality wood and it's really nice and sturdy. I weight 225lbs to 250lbs and I'm 5'8". This seat was big and I still had more room for my butt. I can also reach to the floor of my shower with this seat and pick up a bottle of shampoo with ease. I didn't have to use the leveling casters on this seat though, so I can't comment on that. For those who mediate in the shower, I highly recommend this. It seems really grounding. This is the second bench I have bought from this company and I am very pleased with this one also. The packaging does a great job protecting it so it arrived in perfect condition. The wood is well finished with rounded edges and joints that fit perfectly. The only issue I had was the instructions. It would be helpful to have the letters of each leg marked on the instructions as the screws do go in different directions. I figured it out pretty quickly but it would be a great improvement to the instructions. Once I figured out the legs, it took less than 5 minutes to put it together. I like the fact that the colours are not uniform. They fit in with our decor. Also, after over a month of use it still looked brand new so I bought a second one for my second bathroom. Also, they were easy to put together and to adjust the height so that they didn’t rock and are solid. Read more

I'm writing this review almost 18 months after my purchase so I can comment on the quality and durability. It's good quality, perfect for shaving legs in the shower, although I'm not sure a very heavy person should sit on it. Check the weight limit. One great feature is that the rubber feet are adjustable, so it can be made level in a shower that slopes toward the drain. I find that all teak furniture eventually loses its finish, no matter if you treat it or not. This bench has done pretty well, considering it's in a shower that gets used every day, sometimes multiple times. It's only faded on the front side, but it's not splintered, just a bit worn. This is a very beautiful looking, sturdy shower chair. Useful as well. My only complaint was that the teak material is supposed to be suitable for humid environments (like the shower) but it is a nightmare for me to keep it clean and from rotting. It began getting dark spots and mildew after a few months and showed signs of becoming damaged on the underside of the seat. I cleaned it with vinegar solution and a pressure wash to clear up the dark spots forming. Then, bought a marine sealer for teak wood and applied once it was completely dried out. Soaked up 3 layers of it. This process took several days before it was able to be used again. Now, its lasted 6 months before showing dark spots again, so will redo that process. I imagine this seat would not last long without some kind of maintenance routine at keeping it deep-cleaned (pressure washed), dried and then re-sealed every 3-6 months. And this is in conjunction with regular (weekly) cleanings using either vinegar and water or a fungicide/mildewstat cleaner. Overall, I would probably still buy it again because it looks so nice in our shower, but it is a hassle as far as keeping it clean and from breaking down. If I could no longer take the time/effort to maintenance it, I'd likely opt for a new shower bench made of the 'fake wood' that only needs to be wiped down. Read more
