This is a nicely made garment, but the description said tested in extreme winter weather. They are calling it a jacket, so I assume it is meant as outer wear. It is 33 degrees outside right now with a13 mph wind, so a windchill of 23 degrees. I went outside and walked around wearing this as a jacket and wore a base layer underneath. The wind was partially blocked, but quite a bit was cutting through. I would be fine at 30 degrees and no wind if I was moving around, but it really needs an outer shell. I also do not get cold easily, so if you do, this will not provide winter coat protection. It is really more akin to a dense sweater, with a lining somewhat like a fleece jacket. I ordered a large, and it fits pretty well. I am 6'1" and 185 pounds. The arms are pretty long, and the coat is roomy. My guess is that it will fit people up to 6'3" and 200 pounds, as long as that weight is evenly distributed. The coat is stretchy and non-binding. It has two zip pockets on the outside, and two cargo pockets on the inside. The stitching and seams are well done. The real problem for me is not the jacket, but the description. The description says superior warmth and comfort. Rigorously tested in extreme winter weather. Proven to protect against the harshest elements. Though these descriptions are subjective, when I think extreme winter weather, I think 0 degrees or lower and 20 mph wind. Harshest elements to me are low temps and high winds. When I say this is good to maybe 30, that to me is just a little chilly, not extreme or harsh. It actually is kind of a warmer winter day. I would say this is good to wear as a layer in harsh weather, as long as it was backed up by a proper coat. It is something I would wear around the house on a chilly day. I have a lot of heavy winter jackets, but only one that was more fitting for the 50-70F degree range. It has been worn hard and I’ve been told to retire it, but finding a quality jacket that feels good, keeps you warm, and you feel confident wearing is tough to put away. I have a few brands that I prefer over others, and regardless of the price, I will overlook others and go for one from that particular company that focuses on outdoor gear and outerwear. I wasn’t familiar with the brand Arctix, but I am 100% a fan now! Most of the clothing, especially jackets, that I wear are blue, grey, or black. This blue jacket was priced competitively, and I really liked the color of blue it came in. The color is in fact pretty accurate to how it is advertised online. It is a dark, deep blue with black trim, and it looks great! I like the high neck on it that helps keep the chill and wind from hitting me from all sides while outside in the cold. It folds down nicely when desired, and it really looks sharp. I have even worn it to church and felt comfortable and confident wearing it over my dress clothes. I made the mistake of wearing over a white shirt before washing it, though, and my dry cleaned, white shirt claim out looking blue from all the small blue fuzz from the inside lining. Since laundering it, several times now, I don’t face that issue any longer. The inside lining is like a really tight fleece that feels super soft against my skin. The jacket keeps me warm and it fights back against the cold and humid winter to spring days we are still having. Finally, the side zippers and the main chest zipper have performed flawlessly. I have not experienced any problems so far, and I really love this jacket. Aside from my blue dress shirt, which is my own fault, the only thing I don’t like is that the jacket seems to pick up all kinds of hair or fuzz that I encounter. I quick swipe of a lint roller or brush, though, and it is back looking brand new! So, I would not ever consider washing or drying it with a load of towels. I wash it in delicate cycle and with only a few other similar garments, and I am generally pleased on all accounts with this jacket. I would certainly recommend checking it! Read more
