this corset is an excellent product. i have tried many corsets in the past, including underbust corsets, but many of them come off very costume-looking with cheap fabrics and messy accents. this corset is not one of those. the design of this corset is very structured and polished. the fabric and construction is also very structured and the item is thick enough, i think it will last quite a while. i have a 33" waist, which is right between the size for L (32") and XL (34"). i opted for the size L, which does fit, but it required the lacing to be put together pretty loose. a really nice feature of this corset, though, is that they included a piece of black fabric behind the lacing. so if you need loose lacing to make the item fit well, you will not see your clothing underneath the lacing, but rather the black fabric panel for a more cohesive look. this fabric is a flap, so it can be hidden or even cut if you prefer your clothing to show underneath. part of me does wish i had sized up for the XL as i prefer the lacing on my corsets to be a little tighter (visually), but this corset will still be wearable for me for a while regardless of any bloating or weight fluctuations i may experience in the near future. the item was a little difficult to get unlaced on its first unboxing, but then, the lacing was really easy to use after that. the clasps at the front are also really easy to use and generally sturdy. by far the best feature of this corset, though, is the shape it gives. i have never worn a corset and been blown away by the shaping element. i've probably not been wearing the right corsets. but this one gives an EXCELLENT hourglass shape. it pulls in your waist and lifts your bust very well. it was still easy to breathe in (relative to any corset), and not difficult to walk/move around in. i got this to have on hand for costumes; i don't plan to wear it as a waist trainer. but i find myself always needing a black underbust corset for various costumes and theme events, and i think i've found a really great one. my ONLY complaint with this item is the tag that has branding on the back of it. i don't love visible branding and could have done without that tag. i'm wary to cut it or pull the threads to remove it, because i don't want to cause a visual flaw to an otherwise perfect item, so i wish the manufacturer had just left it off. I just learned how to lace and adjust corsets on my own (always had to have my hubby help me), so now I'm obsessed with corseting. Finding good quality corsets are not easy, a lot claim to have steel boning, but you get them and they are plastic...didn't have that issue with this corset, because it ACTUALLY has steel boning. Steel boning is important because it helps the corset keep its shape and keeps it from rolling up when you sit or bend over (plastic boning is only good for costume pieces, cause they offer no benefit). The quality of this corset is very nice...the actual steel boning, the material is nice and sturdy, the busk hooks are metal and don't bend easily, very easy to adjust for a beginner, and the modesty panel is long enough that you can let the corset out about 5 to 6 extra inches and still be covered in the back. I would definitely recommend this corset to anyone and I will be purchasing more in every color or style they offer, cause like I said, finding a good quality and affordable corset is not easy. The quality of the materials and workmanship of this corset is on par with them which was surprising based on the price. The fit is true to size. The metal stays are uniform in shape and weight. This underbust corset has the perfect dimensions for me. I am 5'1" with a short torso and it is the perfect length - everything is where it is supposed to be top to bottom. I love that it is made with a thick material, sturdy clasps and boning. I am not sure that my waist is "trainable" lol but the quality is so good that I will probably be using this as a corset on top of say a blouse or a dress for an evening occasion or even as part of a costume. I originally ordered it just to wear on top of my outfits to give them that extra flare and accentuate my waist, but this corset is the real deal. The quality of this corset feels very well-made. The material is thick and also really smooth. Not to mention, the boning of this corset is really strong and durable. This is how I imagine the corsets to be back during the renaissance.
