Bogs Arcata Knit

I live in Alaska, so winter boots are a big deal because, if you're smart, you wear them every day. I shop for a new pair every year or so and I am usually loyal to Sorels. I'm glad I tried these Bogs out because they're pretty much exactly what I want in a boot. Good traction, excellent fit and comfort, waterproof and warm, easy to put on and take off the several times a day I switch from inside shoes to boots. I'm especially liking that they fit snugly without tying the laces (and the laces don't drag on the ground). Of course, I tie them for longer treks, but I haven't found a need when I go out with the dogs, grab firewood, head in to the office, etc. If they hold up well through the season, I'll definitely shop spring sales for a second pair...or two. These were true to size and comfortable right out of the box. I ordered my usual size 7 and have worn them without socks and with heavy hiking socks. No breaking in needed at all. I finally got to wear them in the sub zero temperatures last week and they kept my feet warm and dry all day. I like that they are easy to slip on and take off too. No need to sit and pull or kneel and tie. The most important thing for me was the treads. I was looking for something with good grip and these did the job in last week’s icy conditions. But these are definitely winter snow boots and not a fashion statement. However, I do like the way they look and have worn them out to our local pub. I’m super happy with this purchase and I tried and returned several more expensive brands before settling on these. Sorrels are definitely cuter but not as comfortable or warm as these. Just tried these out ice fishing yesterday! My feet stayed dry and WARM. Seriously well worth the money! I had the other type of Bogg boots that had a narrow calf opening and no lace up. The other style of boots were super uncomfortable to walk in and the tread was awful trying to pull the ice fishing gear on the ice to where you set up. These were so much different. The tread is amazing. The comfort outstanding (a bit tight with my thick wool socks but that is expected). My toes NEVER felt cold and I usually have cold feet in any boots I wear. And they look CUTE and STYLISH!!! I am so very happy with my purchase. If you’re pondering whether you should spend the money...just do it!!! Update: Just came back from ice fishing in about 3 inches of slush/water on top of the ice. My feet stayed dry and warm!!! Seriously this is unheard of in my many years of fishing. I am so happy that I’m buying buying the Bison Boggs for both my tween aged kids even though I have a chance of them outgrowing them...even if we get one dry season out of them it will be worth it! Nice. I wear a 8.5 wide womens shoe because I wear orthotics. So, I purchased a women's size 9. They fit surprisingly well. My orthotics do not move around. They stay in place. They fit pretty good on my foot too. I wear merino wool socks. They are warm and putting them on and off is easily done! I love the cut out handles on them to do so:). When I walk they do not slip on my heel either. The bottom tread is great for snow. Good traction and push off. I purchased them to wear in cold weather and out in the snow. I have gaiters (and snow pants) to wear over the upper part if the snow is deeper then the top of the boot. But on average they work we'll in snow. I'm happy with my purchase and plan on getting a pair in grey. My original purchased boots are in black. The black color is true black and goes with my snow pants and jeans well. Okay, I NEVER write reviews so soon after receiving a product because I have to wait & try it & see how well it will hold up over time. But oh my heavens these boots are SO comfortable! I bought these ones & the Columbia Ice Maiden II ones. I was afraid these ones wouldn’t fit very well & thought the others would fit better because they are wide width. Plus the price is quite a bit higher. But after reading reviews I decided to give them a shot, half expecting to have to return these ones. I have wide short-ish feet with a high arch & a high instep so it’s always been extremely challenging to find footwear of any kind that actually fit & are comfortable, but boots are a whole other demon, especially with my big calves. IF I am able to get my feet in, I’m usually not able to get my calves in. I literally have 1 pair of boots that I rarely wear because although they fit, they don’t fit well & get very uncomfortable fairly quickly. Well I tried both pairs of boots on & these ones actually fit better than the wide width sized ones & they are SO comfortable, I don’t want to take them off. We don’t even have snow here yet & sometimes don’t get any during the winter, but I just want to wear these forever. So glad I took the chance on these. Now debating whether or not I should return the other ones. I also have no doubt in my mind that these will last for a good while. They’re definitely quality boots. Read more
