I didn’t know thermometers could get this bad.

I thought a thermometer was a safe thing to get a cheap version of but apparently I was wrong. This thermometer is off by 5-100 degrees F. Yes, 100 degrees. I ruined a batch of nougat by making the mistake of using this thing. I first assumed I’d somehow used it wrong, if that’s even possible, and tested it multiple times while also using my old candy thermometer to compare the two and avoid ruining anything else. Yep, this one simply doesn’t work. I have no idea why it reads within +/- 10 degrees of the accurate temp at lower temperatures but when the temperature of the mixture reaches 200 F, this piece of junk slows down and seems to pick a random number between 200 and 220. My instant read AND candy thermometer were saying 305 while this garbage was still perched at 207. A thermometer! Seriously! Read more
