Let's start with the fact that I am a Caraway fan. I think it is CRITICAL to own non-toxic cookware because we already encounter so many toxins in this world we live in so why on earth would we add to that with the things we use to prepare our food? I come from an old-school mentality, and I am certain that particular foods NEED to be prepared in cast iron because you can't achieve perfection without it. I am only going to do my steaks and my friend's chicken in good old-fashioned cast iron. With that said, this is not your mom's old-school cast iron. For starters, my old cast iron was sooooo heavy, I dreaded pulling it out because it was so cumbersome. THIS IS NOT a pain in the butt to use, and for that, I am so thankful. It has allowed me to get back to steaks and have a great attitude doing it. The cast iron grill pan is pre-seasoned, and I was initially skeptical and was certain I would have to go over it to get it right. I WAS WRONG. It was ready to go right out of the box, and all I could think was, WELL DONE, CARAWAY FRIENDS! My first meal was a ribeye steak, and the sear on it was perfect! It was as close to the grill as you are going to get, and that is impressive. Just like the original Caraway cookware, this bad boy was a breeze to clean. Just let it cool down and everything comes off with a spray from the faucet. I used the soft side of a sponge and it was ready to dry in under a minute. You do have to be careful where you sit this and that you aren't sliding it around because the bottom has texture, and it will scratch delicate surfaces. This is expected given that its cast iron but I wanted to make sure I said it. As I mentioned, I am a fan of the brand, but I also like to be REAL when there is room for improvement and there is one area for me. THE HANDLE...... does get hot and in my opinion it is too short. My hands are on the smaller side and as you can see by the photo, there is very little room for error. My husband has difficulty because his hands are much bigger than mine. I did take 1 star away because this could definitely be better. My other gripe is that they didn't make a color that goes with my white and gold original Caraway set, but that is just me being picky about aesthetics. Would I Buy This - Yes Value for the money - Great.....I will have this thing forever...... or until they make a color that matches my original set. My rating system breakdown: 1 Star = Gross misrepresentation of a product, made of inferior materials, or does not perform the stated function 2 Stars = Needs improvement: Doesn’t work consistently or is manufactured with low-level materials 3 Stars = It works as stated, but I am not impressed with the craftsmanship or the overall aesthetics OR the value does not align with the cost. 4 Stars = Meets expectations 5 Stars = Exceeds expectations and would be worth a splurge Read more
