Carhartt Mens Super Dux Relaxed Fit Insulated Traditional Coat 105002

I decided to take a chance on Carhartt's Super Dux winter coat instead of getting the same Carhartt insulated canvas duck coats I've worn for decades. Boy, am I glad I did! It's so lightweight I can wear it open when it's in the 50's without being uncomfortable, but it stood up to extreme cold as well. (Since winter temps haven't really hit yet where I am, I tested it in the freezer at work where alarms go off if the temperature gets above -5F!). I ordered a size Large for my 5'10", 185-lb frame, and it fits perfectly. I've been able to put a light hoodie on underneath it, but I don't think it would allow a lot of layering like the loose fit of the regular Carhartt coats I've worn in the past. But then, as light and warm as this is, you probably won't need much layering. There are plenty of roomy pockets, and the shell material seems very durable, unlike most other winter coat. Carhartt-rating for cold-weather warmth of 4 (out of 4), and the famous Carhartt quality make this a winner. Well worth the extra few dollars it costs: I found out their regular canvas duck is only warmth rated for 2. If you want a winter coat, you can't go wrong with this one! Read more

Okay so far I LOVE this jacket, I needed to replace work coat that I brought from Gander Mountain a long time ago that was superior in so many ways from an insulated waterproof hood, to an insulted warm jacket that can take the rain snow and high winds. I was on the Carhartt site and saw this Super Dux coat and decided to check Amazon for shiggles and git and found it on sale for $93.00. I jumped on it and got it two days later vs 10 days, it came the day before a temperature drop too. Things I like: 1) Waterproof duck cloth that's not bulky or stiff 2) knit cuffs on articulated sleeves 3) Insulated attached hood that fits a hat not sure about helmet 4) convenient front pockets with snaps 5) a zipper that doesn't get caught on anything and feels durable 6) inside pocket that fits a phone wallet and 2 outside chest pockets that I can hold a lot of stuff 7) a soft yet incredibly warm lining its no joke with no bulk better than my Columbia jacket 8) a little bit of fleece inside the chin collar 9) over all weight of the jacket is good not too heavy yet doesn't feel light and the last but nicest thing about this coat 10) despite being a bit long it has side zips that you can zip up so that you can access pockets and belt pouches and it makes it easy to sit down in your vehicle and not have it bulb up or restrict you movement. I'm not a jacket guy. I hate how they look, I hate carrying them around, and even when I lived in New York (I'm now in Florida), I'd be the guy walking around in 20 degree weather with a hoodie or light windbreaker. But that comes with a cost - people feel the need to judge you on the street. And as I was heading up to Canada for a business event, the last thing I wanted was to be called out for my lack of jacket in front of clients. So I bought this. I could not be more pleased. It's definitely a big, winter jacket. It's not egregiously heavy, but it's not light by any stretch of the imagination. Still, I was amazed at the ratio between how effective it seems to be at keeping my warm and comfortable ... and how manageable it is from a weight/bulkiness perspective. It also very stylish -- maybe not red carpet stylish, but something that looks striking and flattering while walking down the street. The tapering is also very impressive; though it's big, it doesn't have that "boxy" effect and contoured from my shoulders to waist reasonably well. Again, it's something you can wear on a night out to the bars or movies and not look ridiculous. And due to the warmth and insulation, I'd imagine you could wear this to a ski resort as well. I bought this in the fall of 2024 in preparation for my first winter in Alaska. I wanted something durable and warm - but not TOO warm such that I have to take it off in the grocery store, for example. The Super Dux fits the bill. I spent several hours outside plowing my large driveway on single-digit temps and the only place I was cold was my face, fingers and legs. Body-wise, I was super comfortable. But better yet, I could hop in the car with my coat on and the heater going, and I wasn't baking. Zippers are large, which makes it easy to zip/unzip with gloves on. It does feel super good quality. I’m 5”10, 185 and I got a M size. It fits pretty perfectly for my standards. I could wear this in 30 deg weather with a shirt on only but I feel there’s enough space for a sweater. The hood covers you but the way I wear my jackets in the cold, I’m always tryna cover my mouth anyway. For a bald man, it feels warm and comfy. I also can wear this jacket in the fall and still be fine - not sweating while I wear this inside the house. It’s comfy and a level 4 warmth 1 which is for extreme warmth for carhartt standards.
