It's great! Buy this instead of a real ST Dupont!
This lighter by JT Dunant is meant to ape the ST Dupont Ligne 2 lighter, "cling" and all. It does a great job! (I have several old ST Duponts, btw.) You'll easily pay 20 times more for the genuine Dupont, and as an investment it might make sense, but as a lighter it's doesn't. If you want a really nice looking lighter, for lighting things, that has the heft and appearance of the ST Dupont without the heft of the ST Dupont price, this is your lighter! It's got s pleasing weight to it, the plating is thin but looks great and will probably hold up well enough. (ST Dupont plating, as thick as it is, eventually wears through to the brass, too.) The "cling" sound you get when you open it is musical and resonant. The build of the lighter is sturdy, it holds a lot of gas, lights easily, the flints are easy to replace and flame height is simple to adjust. As a refillable butane lighter it's priced a bit on the high side (I paid $75?), but you're getting all those great functional attributes plus a very slick appearance and build quality. Look, if you want an ST Dupont and you're ready to pay fifteen hundred for a new one, or pay a few hundred for an old beat-up one plus the cost of refurb, go for it. If you want to pay a fraction of that price for a nice-looking, hefty, dependable lighter that looks great, performs well and will meet the need for a good long while right out of the shipping box, this is your game right here. I'm taking off just one star for refill requiring an adapter. I guess the makers were so keen on replicating a Dupont that they replicated the most annoying part of a Dupont, too? It's not a big deal, though - just buy a set of Dupont adapters here on Amazon (or a can of butane that includes a set of adapters) and you'll be good. Verdict: a somewhat spendy ST Dupont look-alike that ticks all the boxes and is totally worth every penny. Read more
