Coolibar Fashion Umbrella - UPF 50 Sun Protection - Calotta in Multicolor

I love this umbrella. It gives a great amount of coverage without being too big. I live in Texas so the sun can get pretty scorching. It's easy to open and close and the hook handle is both pretty and functional in carrying it. Like other reviews have mentioned, the handle does start peeling but it shouldn't bother you if you're not into aesthetics as much. Besides, the only person likely to notice is you! I also have the small compact Coolibar umbrella and this one withstands strong winds much much better. I still kept the small one to carry in my purse for when I have an unexpected outdoor adventure and I dont have this one with me (usually walking to lunch from work rather than driving). I also get a lot of questions and compliments on this umbrella. Everyone is always asking me where I got it from. My only gripe, with any personal sun umbrella really, is not enough side coverage in morning and late afternoons, no matter how much you tilt the umbrella. I try to keep every part of my body under the canopy because even with sun protective clothes, the Texas sun can still scorch! Being under a canopy or within any shadow really, helps keeps me a lot cooler because the sun isn't touching and warming something next to my skin. Read more

First and foremost, the umbrella featured here has an outside that is silver, not white like what's implied in the pictures. They didn't hide this fact, but the sample picture in terms of outside color is deceptive. In saying that, the silver color is more similar to a "silky duct tape" color, which as presented is tolerable and pleasing to look at. Coolibar should consider putting a floral design on the outside to give it a hip look. People will notice the color from a distance, however where I live they'll notice someone carrying an umbrella around during the day regardless. The inside is a dark green color that resembles camping gear. It's actually a very beautiful green. It also has some white netting underneath that acts as ventilation for airflow. I imagine this is to prevent buckling and inverting. Very neat. My beautiful girlfriend has Lupus, and with the upcoming summer the increase in sunlight is the major factor in triggering her Lupus flare ups. Because she shouldn't have to put on sunscreen every single day, I purchased this sun umbrella as a way to prevent flare ups and the pain associated with it. I often felt helpless as she would tire from the pain, and in knowing there was nothing I could do it really bothered me. Since our purchase of this umbrella, she is better outside than ever before. People say we look cute together walking around with the umbrella, and she absolutely loves it. In direct sunlight, some people have taken shelter with us because of how well it protects against the sun. It's really like sitting under a tree's shadow. Although I originally thought the outside of this umbrella was a different color, I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase and every aspect of this product. This is such a cute umbrella. It brightens up a dreary day and keeps me shaded on a sunny one. I live in south Florida where we get both intense sun and drenching rains on the same day during rainy season. This is perfect for that weather. The only negative that I found was the chemical odor when first opening this package. It took a few days to fully dissipate, but I haven’t had a wiff of that smell after the third day. Read more

This is my second one like this. The first came directly from coolibar. This one is double layer. Under the pretty material is a layer of thick grey plastic. This is my fourth umbrella from Coolibar. They do not stand by their warranty. So these only last about 5 years and have to be replaced. Read more

I bought this umbrella when we were living in Arizona. It is very well made. I hate the heat and really tried to protect my skin. When I took walks this umbrella made it 10 degrees cooler. The umbrella is large and would protect my whole upper body. My dog liked to walk in it’s shadow. If my husband was the same height we could have both been under it. Now we are in Seattle again and don’t use it as often but the summers here are getting hotter each year. I’m sure I’ll get lots more use out of it. This would also be a great umbrella for golfers. I had been looking to buy this for a couple of years, but it was always sold out (the small travel size was only available, and I wanted the bigger one). This umbrella has made a big difference in my life. I'm not a big fan of the sun in general, and the sun becomes especially oppressive when I take my daily lunch break walk. I walk about 2.5 miles along the water and there isn't much shade. I was tired of coming back to work completely sweaty and being unevenly colored (dark arms, sun marks on my face around my sunglasses...not attractive). It holds up well in the wind and is very sturdy. It is a bit big for casual use, though. I just ordered a travel-sized version of a similar brand so that I can have options in terms of size, since sometimes when I go for my walk, I'm unsure whether to take it or not if the sun doesn't look that bright that day, and a smaller size would be good for those days out of convenience. This is the best umbrella ever. I have also used it in the pouring rain and it offers a lot of protection because of its size. Get this umbrella! You will be singing its praises too! Read more
