Have you ever gotten angry...at an entire state? Or country? Dan has. Dan (voiced by Curtis Armstrong, who is known for Revenge of the Nerds and Better Off Dead) is a short, psychopathic, unemployed guy who brings his friend Chris (voiced by Dave Foley) to seek vengeance on...whatever happened to piss him off recently. This set up may sound like it would get stale after a while, but the writers really know how to keep it fresh and most of the jokes are laugh out loud funny. Dan is the sort of character you love to hate. If I had to describe this show, it would be like Clerks: The Animated Series with fewer adult jokes or (as others have pointed out), Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes if he had grown up. Also, it's kind of like the opposite of My Name Is Earl. While the show is on The Hub and seems to be aimed at the tween demographic, there's a lot of dark humor, subtle innuendos, and a bitter, resentful man. And it's finally on DVD! The quality of the episodes on the DVD is actually pretty decent. Being a flash cartoon (which isn't that noticeable, except for some minor character movement from the supporting cast or background character), it can be put on DVD and still look pretty good. Well, it certainly looks better than it does on TV. Don't expect too much from the animation, though. It's not bad, but the designs are simplistic and (as I mentioned) you can occasionally tell it's animated with Flash. The show relies more on the witty writing, jokes, and the great voice acting. I would really recommend this show to anyone who wants a good laugh. This, as the description says, is the full first season. The episodes included are: Disc 1 -Dan vs. The Wolf-Man -Dan vs. New Mexico -Dan vs. The Dentist -Dan vs. The Ninja -Dan vs. The Animal Shelter -Dan vs. Traffic -Dan vs. Ye Olde Shakespeare Dinner Theater -Dan vs. Baseball Disc 2 --Dan vs. the Salvation Army --Dan vs. The Beach --Dan vs. George Washington --Dan vs. Technology --Dan vs. The Barber --Dan vs. Art --Dan vs. Elise's Parents --Dan vs. The Fancy Restaurant --Dan vs. Dan Disc 3 --Dan vs. The Family Camping Trip --Dan vs. Burgerphile --Dan vs. The Magician --Dan vs. The Lemonade Stand Gang Really, $15 for a complete season of a TV show (22 episodes) is a pretty good deal, especially considering My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is being sold for TWICE that. And true, the only special features are an animatic for Dan vs. Burgerphile, it's still a pretty good bargain. I'd be a little bit happier with this had it included something else like an interview with the writers or the actors, but it's not enough of a complaint for the set to lose a star because the show on DVD itself is, in my opinion, good enough for five stars. I love Dan VS. It's one of my favorite cartoons of the 2010s and one of my favorites of all time. I wish they released Season 2 and 3 on DVD as well, but the only way you can get the other seasons is through digital services like ITunes or Google Play unfortunately. A Blu-ray release of all 3 seasons would be better. The DVD, while nice looking on the shelf, seems a bit lacking. The DVD menu has no music, and there's only one bonus feature (an animatic version of Burgerphile is the bonus feature, it's cool to watch but I wish there was more bonus material.) Read more

Dan (voiced by Curtis Armstrong) is essentially the type of man who should be in a long term psych treatment plan and on several strong antipsychotics, but his paranoia gets in the way. Most of his being involves childish vengeance against a set entity who he feels wronged him. He is in a enabling friendship with a man named Chris, who is married to Elise, a woman who could easily been a Kim Possible-type agent when she was young. At times these plots of vengeance backfire in some spectacular ways. While the show is too adult for small children and too childish for adults, it was originally meant to compete against shows on Cartoon Network's Adventure Time and Regular Show, which were the first TV-PG shows to air outside the Adult Swim block. After 3 seasons, the show wrapped up and currently has yet to fully be released to the series' entirety. It's a diamond in the rough-type of show where it finds itself ridiculously solving its problems within the confines of the episode and Dan is not the type to take the high road, but rather a road full of anger to compensate for his misery (he lives in a dirty, trashed apartment somewhere located in urban California and up until he sought vengeance upon the animal shelter, by himself. He "adopts" a little scraggly female cat he calls "Mr. Mumbles" and appears after that.) Dan VS. would be one of those shows aired on a network where in spite of the brilliant writing formula that doesn't repeat on the regular, it was canceled before it could go further into Dan's twisted mind to show if his behavior stems from an incident prior to his current life. A great first season to a phenomenally fun series. The premise is of one man Dan a man who has it out for the world. Everything sets this guy off and it leads to funny conclusions to some of the minor gripes of life. For example Dan gets his car scratched and figures it was a wolf man that did the damage to it, and the big reveal? A wolf-man scratched his car. The show indulges in delightful insanity. The animations is alright, pretty good for a flash cartoon but can use some level of improvement as well. I enjoy the shows humor that sometimes dives into the dark humor and hits the comedic cord. I believe that people should sit down and give the show a watch and believe they will enjoy it. i believe Dan would approve this review speaking his praises of how a delightful funny character he is. One of the best seasons of one of the best shows of all time wish season 2 and 3 were here so I could have a physical copy thankfully the hd versions are on YouTube (DVD obviously isn't hd) but who knows how long that'll be up for. They don't even advertise it almost like nobody wants this show to succeed, how typical especially with all the crap going on in the world all the time since around 2012 Read more
