For many years, maybe a couple of decades, i used a product called Earth Rated Pet Stain and Odor Eliminator, or something like that. I had already suffered from the lingering detergent and perfume smells of all the well known original pet odor sprays. Unlike now there weren't a lot of choices. i got it at pet stores. I tried many "unscented" cleaners. Some were free of perfume smell that lingered in the air for some number of days from one to four, but they had detergent smell that lingered for a couple of days, to me it's the smell of carciogenic chemicals. Whatever they're using , i don't want it. i found Earth Rated at a pet store and it was the first and only kind i ever had with no scent or odor of its own. At the pet store they said it worked by using enzymes which consumed the substance including odors. That was my experience. Suddenly earlier this year, the company stopped making that product. They still make other pet products but not stain and odor remover. i looked on Amazon and didn't find anything else that had an unscented option (not without its own smell). i was really depressed. i had gotten a second dog and there were house training issues. When i learned Earth Rated was ending, i had stocked up so i had plenty but gradually with the new dog requiring more consumption of it, it was almost gone. i kept looking at Amazon , feeling increasingly hopeless. i was going to have to get something. That's when i saw this Earthworm unscented, with good reviews. I hadn't seen it before. i ordered a bottle. It worked perfectly, greatly exceeding expectations. Now when my new dog lifts his leg and leaves a puddle, at first i feel helplessly victimized. Then i remember that i have Earthworm and it makes me smile and i feel empowered. I still have some of the much enjoyed Earth Rated left but i've switched over to Earthworm totally. What a big help to my quality of life. To make sure i didn't run out, i bought a second 22 oz bottle of Earthworm but i haven't opened it yet. I find a little bit goes a long way. That was true of the other brand i had, so i'm now a big believer of the enzyme technology. Once i open my second bottle of Earthworm, i will order the 64 oz size. Earthworm Pet Stain Remover & Odor Eliminator is very effective and is environmentally friendly. It has a faint but pleasant odor. It does not require a lot to take care of the problem. I use it for all sorts of stains and odors, not just those from my cats. I sometimes spritz some into the air when there is a bad odor and it works very well. The sprayer works well and continues to work until the bottle is empty. Another plus is that you can get all of the liquid out of the container, so you are not wasting anything. By now, I think we've tried them all... this is by far our favorite. Every other one we've tried has such intense artificial perfume odors that I'd almost prefer the smell of the dog excrement. This stuff only has a very minor chemical odor that doesn't linger at all, and you can only smell it if you put your nose close. Other cleaners often leave somewhat of a soapy residue in the carpet afterwards, which tends to attract dirt. You end up with a dirty spot in your carpet a few months later, and have to use a regular carpet cleaner to get that out. Not ideal. Highly recommend this stuff. Product used to be great, but we just got two batches of what seems to be window cleaner or ammonia. The delivered product had the same label as in the past, but the inside liquid is now a reddish brown in color (used to be clear), smells strong of fragrance and/or ammonia (it is supposed to be fragrance-free and says fragrance-free on the bottle), and stained our white carpet (it didn't stain our carpet in the past). Additionally, the product did not break down the accident (i.e. dog poop). We have to find a new enzyme cleaner now because this one is no longer an actual working product. Read more
