Comes with two shades of different circumference and height. The wider one is best suited for casting more light on the floor and ceiling, while the narrower shade is ideal if you just need to put the lamp right up against a wall. There is a quick step for gluing and inserting pins for the shades, but that goes quickly enough. In fact, the whole assembly only takes about 10 minutes, if that. All of the pieces are reasonably lightweight, but don't feel particularly cheap, and everything fits together well. The remote is responsive, at least for most actions. I do find the dimming function is a bit slow, but it's fine. I'm mostly keeping it close to where I have the TV remote, but I do like that it's magnetic, and occasionally lock it onto this metal arm I use for keeping an iPad suspended in view. The remote is just a great thing to have since the lamp is in the living room and I can turn the light on or off without getting up. That's so handy if I'm just lying there and feel like taking a nap, or one of the cats gets up to something and I need to see what's happening. Perhaps the only minor issue here is that the light bulb itself maxes out at only a mid-level brightness. It's plenty to light up everything in a room so you can see everything, but you would need to be fairly close to it if you want it read by this light. The $60 list price is too high for this lamp, but it seems like it's regularly on sale for $30, and that is decent. I have a dark corner in my den that needed some light but I didn’t have any available shelf space. So, a floor lamp is perfect for that spot and this lamp serves the purpose of brightening it up very well. The lamp is easy to use with multiple functions. It comes in several pieces, including the shade. There are two ways to do the shade so you make it the way you want. Either like a tall cylinder or a circle. I went with the circle. It is easy to do. I placed the shade on a table and just rolled the wire frames around, snapping them into the shade and then it sticks together at the seam. The rest of the lamp requires lining up the parts and screwing them together while making sure to not pinch the wire. When moving the lamp, the pieces do unscrew a little so will need to be tightened once the lamp is in its place. The base is sturdy and there is a foot button to push to turn the light on and off. The lamp is about 5 feet tall and is great for beside a chair or anywhere as it provides good lighting. The bulb does come with it and is plastic instead of glass which reduces breakage risks. A remote with two AAA batteries is included. It has several buttons. If get this for an older person then some explanation may be needed. I played around, just pushing the buttons, but the instructions do tell what each one does. You can change the brightness level and the “temperature” or color of the bulb. There is an on/off button. The buttons at the bottom are presets that choose the color and level for you. Also, there is a 1 hour timer button. I tried that out and it worked fine. It shut off after an hour. I wanted to replace a lamp we've used for many years for our evening puzzle sessions, because we liked the remote/dimmer/timer options, so this looked like a fair swap. I'm quite pleased to report that it is every bit as quality as the one it is replacing. The base is heavy, and it was simple to set up. The pole is metal, as well as the shade braces, so it is designed to last. The magnetic remote is quite handy, but the brilliance of this is the slim shade included. Originally I was going to put this in the bedroom as a nightlight setup, but once I had the silly-looking narrow shade put together, I thought of a better use for it. We have a two-level staircase with a landing and the nightlight I had put on the landing hasn't quite been cutting it. With the narrow shade, this tucks neatly into the corner in the only spot it could go, without taking up critical square feet on the landing. The larger shade is bigger than the base, but the smaller shade fits neatly into the corner and it's simple to set it from bright to night light, and even put the timer on if you don't want it on all night. I think the shade construction is clever and installation was very simple. I appreciate the extra shade option, as well as the included bulb. All in all, you can't beat a lamp like this at this price if it's what you need. Certainly, it is slim and that's why I like it. Read more
