We've tried several other knife sharpeners but hadn't found one that gave our knives a razor sharp edge. We have a set of high quality kitchen and steak knives purchased years ago. Like all knives, they do need sharpened from time to time. There's nothing better than a sharp knife that cuts through a steak like butter. All of the electric sharpeners we've tried previously actually seemed to dull the knives and left visible grind marks on blades, even after running them through the polishing stage multiple times. As such, we typically just sharpened them manually with a ceramic sharpening rod. One day our sharpening rod fell on the tile floor and shattered, so we decided to take a chance on this sharpener. It took a few minutes to get the hang of pulling the knife through at a steady pace, but the knife guides made it easy to keep everything lined up with the sharpening wheels. After a few pulls through all three stages, we were amazed by the edge it put on the blade! I was able to sharpen all of our kitchen knives, steak knives, and my pocket knife in about a tenth of the time it would have taken with a sharpening rod. Since I saw that most of the reviews were by people who had been given the sharpener to evaluate it, I wanted to provide my input as someone who actually purchased the sharpener. I have to say that for the price, the sharpener did an adequate job. It did take several passes on the coarsest setting to see results. The slots are edged with rubber that tends to peel off as the knives are drawn through. I think it’s a reasonable price for the quality of the sharpener, but if you’re looking for faster results, you’ll want to go with a higher quality sharpener. I’ve only just begun using this, so I can’t speak to its durability long-term. Read more
