We debated on whether to call a local professional knife sharpening service or get this home unit. We bought this unit when we were quoted $1+/inch for each knife. We have four different brands of knife sets for various purposes in the dining and kitchen. Before our first sharpening, the Chicago stainless steel table steak knives wouldn't even cut a tomato skin. Even tender cuts of beef were tough to cut. After one sharpening the tomatoes could be slices wafer thin or thick with ease. Cutting steak or breaking up slabs of pork ribs is now a breeze. Same results for all the kitchen carving and butcher knives. Sharpened serrated knives too. Hard block cheeses are now easy to slice. Money saver: What would have cost over $100 for a professional mobile service to sharpen all our knives, is no longer a consideration. This product saved us about $70 with just one sharpening of all the knives and without the inconvenience of not having the knives at home because they were at the knife shop.
