After hours of research and days of pondering, I ended up buying the A1 version of this scooter and it arrived 5 days ago. I bought it to replace my former scooter, which lasted me 10 years. The 1st thing I noticed was the handlebars were higher than expected, which was a pleasant surprise. Any adult will be comfortable with them. The little display on the handlebars is pretty cool. It shows the "mode", speed and battery level, which are all I care about. It comes with a screen protector installed that was annoying to me because it wasn't long before it looked like it was coming loose around the edges. At first, I thought it was just the flimsy clear plastic film that I peeled off the headlight. But, after trying to take it off for a few minutes with no success, I finally took a razorblade to it. It was actually still holding on pretty well, even though it looked like it had lost adhesion. It turned out to be pretty thick, like a smartphone screen protector. But it came right off and left no residue behind. I'm sure it would stay on for awhile if I'd left it alone, but the look of it was annoying to me. If you don't mind the appearance, you can leave it on there for protection. The Bluetooth smartphone interface is also cool and has some useful info. In it, I can see how far I've ridden today, how many miles I've put on it overall and the specific battery power remaining (i.e. 82%, vs the 1-5 bars on the scooter's handlebar display). It also has a few settings you can change, like the "mode" (slow, medium, fast, basically) and you can turn on/off the lights and cruise control. You can also choose the startup method (kick to start on/off). The app you need is called "Tuya Smart". It works great. The width of the deck was a bit disappointing to me. I wear a size 12 shoe and I wished the deck was a bit wider, but it turned out to work just fine. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if it were 2" wider, but it's not a show stopping issue for me. I've ridden it for 20-30 minutes per day for the past 5 days. The 1st thing I noticed when I got on it was it felt a bit...unwieldy. I suppose it's no different than other scooters of this style, but my last scooter felt more stable, so this was a surprise to me. That's because my old one had wider, taller wheels and air-filled tires. But, it was also 3 times the price of this one. After about 30 minutes on it, I felt much more comfortable with it, so it turned out to be ok. I can zip around on it just fine now. One reason I chose this scooter was the hard tires. For some reason, my car and my old scooter keep picking up nails in the tires. Roofing nails. I guess a number of the folks in my neighborhood had recent roof work done. Airing up the little tires was a hassle since the wheels are small, the valve stems are small, there's wires and brakes and suspension...so the valve stem has to be in a certain spot in order to access it. Plus, changing the inner tubes was way more of a hassle than working with a bicycle's tires. I just didn't want to deal with air-filled tires any more. The ride is a bit bumpier at times with hard tires, but I feel it's a good trade-off for me. The suspension on this one does work great, but, due to the hard tires, I still feel a lot of bumps in the road and all of the expansion joints in the sidewalks. Again, not a show stopping issue as I've gotten used to it, so now I only notice it on rougher surfaces that last for more than a few seconds (Like yesterday when I happened upon a brick sidewalk, sheesh!). My last scooter was 48v 1000w, so the specs on this one concerned me a bit. I'm 6' 1" tall and 210 lbs, so I expected to not see the listed performance from this scooter. But, I was pleasantly surprised to see the speedo at 22mph while riding it. I'm not sure if it will go slower when the battery is low on power, but I've had it down to 25% and it still did 22mph. On about a 15 degree incline, it only dropped to 15 mph. When I started up that same hill from a dead stop, it still reached 12mph and got up the hill with no problem, which was impressive to me. It actually outperforms my old scooter. As for range, it looks to be about 15-16 miles for me. This was expected, due to my size and the hills around my neighborhood. The headlight is very bright. It's great for making me visible to others and it provides enough light at night to see what's in front of me, giving me time to stop or avoid obstacles as needed. There's also a bell, which has been handy a couple of times. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive scooter. The only caveat I would add is if you live in an area where you don't have issues with punctures, I would opt for a scooter with wider, air-filled tires. It would give you a smoother, more stable ride. By the way, if I have any issues with the scooter at all, I will update this review. purchased the product for my son, 13-year-old kid, kickstand broke almost immediately, later on the fender broke, we tried to use the app never did work, we contacted them took forever, but finally somebody said to download this app, but it would never connect, to be honest I don't like to complain, but fat chance I would buy this again, should be easy enough to buy a replacement part, and get some help from support to make the app function, but apparently that's not possibly there because when I reached out to them to just buy the parts, not ask for them for free I didn't ever get a response, good luck. THE GOOD: distance THE BAD: weak brakes HANDLING: Going from an e-bike to e-scooter, this feels more complex and dangerous to ride, as expected. If you know how to ride a bike, you will almost instantly learn to balance yourself and ride this scooter. It requires your constant attention while riding, whereas with a bike you can relax and even use your phone while riding. Not on a scooter. SUSPENSION: The knees must be bent at all times or else your brain will turn into scrambled eggs; the suspension is not enough on this scooter. I think it's because of solid tires. This is nice in order to avoid flats but still feels bumpy on an old asphalt. It handled tiny potholes and wide speed humps without a problem. BRAKES: My biggest problem with this device are the weak brakes. I don't think anything is stopping the front wheel. The back wheel's brake needs a lot of distance to stop. If you're riding this on a right-side bike lane and a kid jumps 30 feet in front of you, you will not stop in time. The solid tire doesn't seem to have enough gripping power. I rode 12 miles today and never felt "scared" during a stop, though, perhaps because I slowed down well in advance of intersections. While riding downhill (medium degree), I had to press the brakes at all times to prevent the scooter from gaining speed because I knew I wouldn't be able to stop at an intersection if a car appeared out of nowhere. Deducting 1 star for poor brakes. HILL CLIMBING: I live in San Francisco and we basically have 4 levels of hills: Small, medium, big, and heart attack. This scooter can climb a medium hill when the battery is full but struggles to do so when it drops under 50%. When the battery is low, I found myself having to kick the scooter forward with my foot to help it climb the last remaining two dozen feet of the medium hill. It can climb a small hill at a decent speed even with a low battery. My single-gear 350W ebike did a much better job than this 500W scooter because I could apply additional force by pedaling. Overall, it did a good enough job, but only for its low price I'm not deducting a star here. DISTANCE: I weigh 165 lbs and used exclusively the 22mph speed setting. I rode it in a city so the scooter had to slow down at every intersection. I often release the throttle after crossing half of the block to allow it to slow down instead of braking hard at the intersection, so I guess the average speed was closer to 16. I was able to travel 12 miles with less than 1 bar left. The terrain was approximately 33% flat, 29% small hill, 5% medium hill, and 33% downhill. I did not use the engine during downhill. I have no complaints about the distance considering the hills, although my ebike with a 7.8Ah battery did a better than this scooter with a 10.5Ah battery, perhaps because on the ebike I can help the battery by pedaling. I will update this review to let you know how long the battery lasts after a few months. UPSATE: I returned the scooter after its display broke after only a week of use. Read more
