We have had a Honeywell F50F Electronic furnace filter with its two high voltage collection modules for over 25 years and it just does not seem to be collecting the dust like it used to. That lack of apparent dust collection, combined with a lot of sneezing in the morning when the furnace turns on, prompted us to look at replacing the Honeywell electronic filter. After some research and careful measurements we discovered we could replace the original electronic metal modules with passive media filters and determined that the Filtrete 20x25x4, AC Furnace Air Filter MPR 1000 should fit....AND IT DOES! A perfect fit in all dimensions. The only thing is one needs to remove a guide in the bottom center of the Honeywell housing which is easily done with a screw driver (see the attached picture). Once that is removed the filter slides in with enough friction that we know it provides good air seal on all edges. The length was also perfect and the housing door closes securely. See the attached picture when installed in the Honeywell housing. This MERV 11 filter has only been installed for a few days but during the morning furnace house warm up, there was no sneezing so I have high hopes this filter or even the more effective MERV 13 version will be our ultimate solution to the F50F electronic modules replacement. The paper pleats would not be cleanable with compresses air without destroying the small particle filtering and as its paper it cannot be washed and must be replaced. The packaging for the filter states it is good for 1 year and at $60 for 2 filters, that's a very reasonable annual maintenance cost for the filter replacement and our health. This filter will fit into either the F50F or the F300 Electronic Filter housing. Just be sure to turn off or remove the power to the F50F module. Filtrete 16x25x4. This one was too big for my furnace. It's a good products but I brought the wrong size. Make sure to look at the Actual size instead of the normal size. The normal big print size was correct but it's the small fine print actual that have to make to sure to match. Read more

I've used filtrete filters for many years and they are the best filters going. However there is an issue with 4" filters you need to be aware of. FILTRETE 4" filters (like other brands) are NOT actually 4.00 inches thick. These 4" filters are actually (size = 19.88 x 24.63 x 4.31). This means that if your filter holder is exactly 4" thick (like my new HVAC is), then these filters won't fit! Filtrete (like other brands) makes a narrower 20x25x4" filter, but not in merv=11. Their exact dimensions are 19.5 x 24.5 x 3.75 filter which only comes in merv=13. However merv=13 reduces your air flow which refuces your cooling. That's the problem. Check with your HVAC folks. I'm using an alternate brand as a result, or I might have the HVAC folks come back out and put in a thicker opening (like 4.5") to use the Filtrete merv=11 filter.
