Wow! The Free Soldier vest surprises with quality materials, immaculate manufacturing, enormous pockets The vest has a regular fit (neither relaxed nor athletic), with clean lines, and a style that's neutral without being boring. The fabric outside has a dense weave and wrinkle-free, matte finish with a hydrophobic coating that causes water to bead and bounce off. Inside, the wrinkles of the nylon liner lend to the vest's aesthetic. The fabric is not stretchy; the vest holds its shape but does so without feeling like it restricts motion. The side pockets wrap around to the back and are big enough to fit a two 20oz water bottles. These pockets are at an unusual angle and don't go forward far enough to be comfortable for resting the hands. Each chest pocket also fits a 20oz water bottle with the zipper closed. The inside pockets share the same profile as those on the outside (they share the same stitching). To assess the loft, I closed and doubled-over the vest to find a 3" stack, so estimate ⅜" thickness. I'll use this vest in late autumn, early spring, in damp weather, and as a layer in colder temperatures. Assembly is top notch. Zippers are appropriately long, stitching is flawless, pocket openings are reinforced with bar tack stitches, collar rests upright. Read more
