I subscribed to Amazon for these filters. With the exception of a one off deal, Amazon has the best prices. I looked at after market filters, but I could not find one that was NSF rated. I don't know what they put in the aftermarket filters, but I think it speaks volumes if the makers don't want to have it independently tested. In any event, I use about two a year of each. The water filters will show cloudy for about a gallon or two initially, but every one has cleared up to clear water. I cannot detect any taste in the filtered water whereas I can detect taste in the unfiltered tap water in my house.
