GEEKOM A5 Mini PC with AMD Ryzen 5 7430U WOW!! What an upgrade from my old PC running Win7. I have been stubborn and refused to upgrade until it had gotten to the point where most Websites wouldn't load due to outdated browsers. Couldn't update the Browsers due to my version of Windows. Grrrr! Didn't want to update to Windows because, well..... Let's just say I don't trust them to protect my privacy and that company seems to think that THEY own my computer and not me. Thankfully, this GeekOM is fully compatible with Linux. What a game changer compared to the Windows environment. Should have done it years ago. Great processing Speed. plenty of ports (never enough though) and it just runs. This PC is Quite and produces no noise. I really like that it is so compact. Also, It pulls a whole lot less power than my old Desktop unit did. I think GeekOM could sell this for just a few dollars less if they didn't pre-install Windows. However, this is a good value for the upgrade I got. It was very easy to setup Linux, in fact, I tried a couple of versions of the operating system before I chose what I did. First off, it's small but it's very capable. I'm not a gamer, just use it for web browsing, emails, etc. run LibreOffice for my documents/spreadsheets/etc. and it handles everything I've thrown at it so far. I've had this PC for just over a week now and not had any issues with it. I set it up initially with the preinstalled Windows 11 Pro 24H2 then updated it, using Windows Update, to 25H2 and no other updates were available. Not one problem. Next, I downloaded the latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft, wiped the drive, and installed a fresh install of Windows 11 25H2, downloaded the latest AMD/motherboard drivers from Geekom, installed them. Ran the updates, and again not one issue. Next I installed Kubuntu (Linux) alongside Windows and dual boot. Again, no problems. My Wi-Fi, NVMe, secondary SSD, and AMD chipset/motherboard were all recognized "out of the box" when Kubuntu installed. It just worked! Impressions so far: 1. For it's size it's amazing actually! it's fast, it looks really nice on my desk. It's so small I have it sitting on top of my external BD-R and the BD-R is huge compared to it. 2. Noise level is minimal. Even when updating, installing apps, etc. the fan will speed up as the CPU temp increases but not so much that it is really even noticeable. 3. It will be easy to upgrade if I ever decide to do that. It's upgradable to 64 GB of RAM but the 16 GB that came with it are more than enough for my use, but the memory sticks are easy to get to and easily replaced. I purchased the model with the 1 TB NVMe so there's plenty of "native" storage. I also had a Crucial 1TB SSD, so I took the bottom of the PC off and there is a neat little slot built onto the bottom plate just for that. I put that SSD in the PC, powered up and I use that drive to store my documents/data/etc. and not touch the main NVMe. 4. Connectivity!! The front of the PC has the following ports: Two type A USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, one of which supplies power for charging if you need it. A mini jack for headphones/microphone The back of the PC has the following ports: Three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, one type A port and 2 type C ports. The two type C ports are also display ports. There is also one USB 2 type A port on the back for USB keyboards or other similar peripherals. There are two HDMI ports on the back to connect to a monitor or TV. There is one 2.5 G Ethernet port The left side of the PC has an SD card reader. It also has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth built in and from my testing they both work with no issues. this GEEKOM A5 2025 Edition Mini-PC definitely presents Quality: First, the box it came looks like it might last over 50 years. You might say โSo what?โ, but it was designed to give the purchaser a sense of quality before they even open the box. Inside the box, the GEEKOM A5 2025 Edition Mini PC speaks stylish quality with its gleaming metallic appearance; chrome edge along the top, and crisp airflow cutouts. Ports for just about any application (even USB Charging) are available on nearly every side; including a card reader slot. Plus has a Kensington security slot (If you gotta ask, you probably donโt use it). Inside the GEEKOM A5 (no tools needed) is space for extra M.2 SSD storage; both SATA-3 and NVMe. I effortlessly added a 1T NVMe. Also included is a sturdy VESA mount (Convenient for mounting on the back of a monitor or someplace else with a VESA standard). The preinstalled Windows 11 Pro was a bit of a challenge however. More challenging than other mini-PC with Windows โpreinstalledโ, which took only 10s of minutes. This install was an hour or so, with many trips to the Windows Update Server and slow reboots. I may mention that to GEEKOM when I review on their site. But now itโs fast, smooth and quiet, and more importantly itโs cool โ just a couple of degrees F over ambient. Time will tell if I need the 90-day return or 3-Year Warranty Coverage. I am a fan of these solid state computers because they are so small. There are plenty of ports for the monitor etc. It runs with almost no sound and is fast. One month in on this one and no problems so far. My last one lasted 10 years, but was an intel . They no longer make them so the Geekom is a foray into the unknown. Fingers crossed. Read more
