Great Tripod for a Spotting Scope

TristanApril 18, 2019

I purchased this tripod for a cheap spotting scope I recently purchased (the one it came with was unusable) - this made the scope go from hard to use to very impressive. I almost bought another tripod but very glad I stuck with this one. I'm using it on a bench and it's the perfect height on the lowest setting, but being able to extend higher is a huge plus! Also, it's very sturdy - when I used it there were strong winds that knocked around other things I had on the bench, but not my scope. The legs are made of aluminum and the whole thing seems to be of great quality. I've only used once so far, but am very happy with the purchase. Read more

It's A Good Tripod

scott mendenhallOctober 15, 2020

Got this today, am not disappointed. This tripod is is mostly aluminum, legs and head are aluminum but there are threaded steel head adjusters with plastic handles, steel inserts for those head adjusters, aluminum pins to hold the legs and the center tube is aluminum. Aside from the plastic handles on the head adjusters there are rubber feet on the legs, a rubber pad for the camera to rest on and the height adust lock knob is plastic. Oh. Also there is a plastic bushing to locate the center tube in the tripod. I put together the heaviest combo I own, Pentax K1000 with an Adaptall2 Tamron 80-250mm lens, this weighs a bit more than six pounds. At full height this Gosky tripod held steady. It's a good piece. Legs are plastic

Randall N JohnsonAugust 13, 2025

Just received mine and haven't had the chance to use it yet. For the money it is excellent. My biggest disappointment is that in spite of what several previous reviewers have stated, and what is implied in the manufactures specs, the legs on mine are plastic. Thick plastic, but plastic. I can flex the sides in and out with my fingers. The only other minus is that either the up/down handle or the mounting plate need to be placed 90 degrees of the way they are. If the legs were aluminum I'd give it five stars. Read more

Engineering

HeR3ticDecember 25, 2018

Closer image examination of the scope base to mounting pad orientation may very well have dissuaded me from my purchase. They dont square with each other, but are at perpendicular aspect to one another. Also the means of tightening the scope to mounting pad as well as the vertical height adjustment knurled knobs make be frown. These knurled knobs should have been the same sort as that applied to the azimuth lock down means. The latter sort lets you get a good grip on it. Its a squeeze to get a finger hold on the scope to pad mounting knurled knob. While this tripod is stout enough and once youve secured everything with arthritic hands, its bound to hold up :( Not as good as a Velbon by any means. I give it one star for stout. The Azimuth locking is poor or very little. The scope wont blow around in a breeze but any nudge or bump with through it off; and, its plastic securing knob dissuades me from any serious torquing it down. Read more

I bought it for a C90Mak and the stand seems to be made mostly of metal and feels stout.

kurtSeptember 26, 2023

The legs and the mount/swivel seem to be made of metal. The canopy that the legs are attached to is metal and covered with a plastic shroud however it does seem well made. The tripod also looks to be good for my MAK 90mm and it doesn't sag when the clamp is tightened. I don't know that I can complain because this was a great price. Read more
