This product ROCKS. The lights are stunningly bright. It was easy to set up and works exactly as advertised. Makes gaming really immersive. Responsive and great colors. Tape was very sticky and I dont see them coming loose. The length was perfect too. Read more
I'm totally blown away by these lights, they're just so cool! I set mine up using the Govee desktop app so the lights are dynamic to what's displaying on my monitor, and not only was the setup totally easy and seamless, but the quality of the lights are so amazing. The colors are super vibrant and there's no lag. I really like that Govee has an app for this product, not only because it made set-up super simple since all I did was tape it on the back of my monitor and plug it in (the app walked me through exactly what to do), but also so I can modify things from my phone if I'd like to. My only complaint is that there weren't any instructions for how to set up the lights to be dynamic with what's displaying on my monitor. Although it was really easy to set it up, I had to go find a YouTube video on what to do because it didn't tell me how to do it in the instruction booklet or on the app. Read more
While this is more expensive than other sets, I think it's worth it (The first LEDs I got were a cheaper version and didn't work). The set up for these was easy and intuitive, and the controls are also intuitive and work well. You can set it from your computer or your phone, and the lights look great. I'm very happy with my purchase. Read more
I've been using these for a few weeks now and I absolutely love them. I was looking for a cost effective lighting system that would reflect the visuals on my screen and these are perfect. Easy to install and use and no weird malware so far! They were a little too long for my 24" monitor so I just stuck them together in the middle. Update: I'm back a few months later for another update. Now that I've had more time with them I have noticed two major flaws: the Dreamview color matching is not always accurate, no matter how much I adjust the settings/brightness/map, and this program uses an insane amount of CPU power. For smaller games, like Stardew Valley, it's totally fine to use them while you're playing, but if you're running anything beefier than a pixel game- you'll see a HUGE drop in your PCs processing power. I have a full custom built streaming PC and even so, my computer struggles to run Baldur's Gate 3 and Govee Desktop at the same time with no other applications open. The lights are still fun when watching videos and those lighter games, but I'm disappointed that the majority of my gaming library's performance suffers while using the Dreamview. I've only taken away 1 star for this, because the lights and software are still great- just not cooperative with Big Beefy Games, which is (somewhat) reasonable. Read more
I run these monitor lights in sync with the Govee Rope Lights around my desk, as well as some Govee Bar Lights on my right wall, and some Govee Hex Lights on my left wall, and it is a great feeling of immersion. Very easy to set up through the Govee App on your PC, and works great. All in all, these are awesome lights, and any Govee Lights that have Smart LED and Dreamview that links up to Alexa or any other smart app can link up to the Govee App, can mimic your screen, meaning you can sync up all your smart lights in your room, set them to the proper places they are in your room in regards to your monitor, for a full immersive experience. This is a tough product to rate. When it's working optimally it's incredible but it has a lot of quirks. I will probably focus mostly on the negative as I think there are plenty of reviews on here focusing on the positive. CONNECTION One of my biggest gripes is this is marketed and sold as a monitor backlight, as in, for a PC, but does not connect physically to said PC or monitor for that matter. In order to get this working on the PC you need to first connect to your phone via the app (why?) go through connecting the lights to your WiFi network. Then run the software on the PC to connect your PC and the lights wireless over WiFi. There is no wired connection, it is not even an option. Why when this product is designed specifically for PC use is it not plug and play via USB? I legitimately cannot think of a good reason for this and when setting it up I was honestly shocked. It would not even have dawned on me that this would work only wireless. To me this is at best completely unnecessary and at worst a detriment to performance and ease of use/setup. WHITE White backgrounds seem to be handled with some shade of blue, it's possible these RGB LEDs are just not good at creating white as there is no separate dedicated white LED (included closeup of LED). This can be kind of annoying on websites or in some media you may watch - it's admittedly not the biggest deal but worth noting. There are a fair amount of options in the app but no color calibration and nothing I could find to change color temperature of the color white unfortunately. BLACK Dark scenes and even straight black images the LEDs will display a dark blue. Why? Why they would not turn off completely or just significantly dim I do not understand, this is very odd behavior to me and is more of a big deal than the issue with white as a lot of the media you will display has dark scenes which will just have dark blue backlight on your wall. TURN OFF So going with if this was just connected via USB this thing does not seem to know when the monitor is blank and will just stay on instead. There is a setting in the PC app where you can check "After the screen is locked, the lights will automatically dim", this does not seem to work at all however. They don't turn off nor dim. You can turn them off in the app but I have woken up in the middle of the night to them doing a rainbow light show after doing it this way- it seems the physical button on the controller does seem to permanently keep them off. And this turning back on admittedly might be a quirk with it and SignalRGB. SignalRGB As mentioned, the app does not play well with SignalRGB. SignalRGB will auto add it to their software when you install GoveeDesktop and will cause problems. Make sure you disable it in SignalRGB and even then you may have some weird behavior with the two- just FYI. The app also mentions this when it detects you have SignalRGB installed so it's not Govee's fault, just of note. I think this product would be significantly better with a physical connection to the computer to allow: -Less latency -Setup without a phone and phone app -More information to the app on what the computer is doing (monitor turning off for instance). A lot of streaming sites will not work such as Netflix- I imagine this is similar to how screen recording or even screenshots are blocked and again is not the fault of Govee, just of note. Physical setup is easy, the strips have full length VHB tape and there are some clips included to tie down the corners which work excellent. I haven't tried any other settings in app besides Dreamview because I feel like that is the key reason to buy this product over something else. With all that said, I will not be returning this despite its flaws. Coming from a cheap strip light with one of those generic, ubiquitous, flat remotes I was previously using, having the effect of color spilling past the sides of your monitor is incredibly cool. I got this for $45 with coupon which I would definitely consider worth it. Read more
