Rivermint Hair Strengthening Minoxdil Shampoo is an ingredient-rich product that claims to prevent hair loss, stimulate hair growth, nourish and strengthen hair. Among 25 active ingredients, it contains Minoxdil, Castor Oil, Biotin, Avocado Oil, Caffeine, Saw Palmetto, Onion, and more. It does not contain sulfates or parabens, which is good. I'm not a medical professional and I won't give medical advice, but I've heard that all of these ingredients can help with scalp health, hair retention and regrowth. You may want to consult a dermatologist if you have a sensitive scalp, but it works fine on mine. This 8 fluid ounce bottle instructs the user to shampoo in a small amount, let sit 2-3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. It can be used daily. It has a pleasant, light, minty but not overpowering scent. The shampoo left my hair feeling soft and shiny. The regrowth/retention aspect of this shampoo isn't going to happen overnight. Again, I'm not a medical professional, but I would think it would take at least a month to three months of regular use to see results. I'm someone who has had good luck using oral Minoxidil, and find with the pill I'm able to sprout new baby hair on my scalp. I'm hoping this shampoo will help me retain them. The price of this shampoo means it's an investment in a better head of hair. The ingredients give me hope. The shampoo is intended for use by men or women. The maker warns that the user may have a bit of increased hair loss when beginning to use the product, due to hair regrowth cycles. That hasn't happened to me yet. I don't know if it is suitable for color treated hair. Read more

I am not entirely sure how to rate this one as of yet. I’m a little skeptical, but also curious about the ingredients. It’s a lot of essential oils and such, which get mixed reviews in hair and skincare, but it includes both argon and castor oil which largely get credited with being great for hair and skin. It’s a small bottle. It was plastic wrapped and had a safety seal, which I always appreciate. However, it seemed to have another safety seal sort of stuck in the cap. I couldn’t get it out and therefore can’t use the cap. I have to twist the top off which isn’t a huge deal. Small manufacturing error. The smell is intense and unpleasant. It smells both like chemicals and like concentrated oils. Very strong smell. I made a face like I stuck my nose in a bottle of tequila when I opened it. WHEW! It didn’t weigh my hair down as much as I expected it to with those ingredients, though. I have extremely fine hair so I was expecting it to. Not the end of the world, I can use different shampoo on days I plan on going out. I would love to get some hair growth back since I’ve lost a bit from thyroid complications. That said, my hair fall in and after this shower was much worse than usual and that’s concerning. I added a picture of my comb as I finished brushing it through my hair. My hair is extremely fine so that’s actually a lot; and much more than I typically get from combing it. My scalp was also slightly tingly but I think that makes sense based on some of the ingredients. I’ve heard that some products that “wake up” the scalp will cause the dead hair to fall out faster at first and I’m hoping that’s all it is and I start seeing new growth soon. But I’m nervous about it. I also broke out pretty bad on my face after using it and I’m not sure if it’s related but it could be all the oils. I almost never break out. It’ll take a while to know for certain how it’s effecting my hair so I’ll come back and update if I see anything different than what I’m seeing so far! Read more

I typically use more of a generic shampoo, but didn't like the kind I was using most recently so I figured I'd try something new. This one is interesting, advertising caffeine as one of the ingredients. I've used a body wash with that before and thought it was interesting and now that I'm trying this, I think there is a specific smell that I associate with it. It has a pleasant smell so I'm not complaining, it just brought back some distinct memories. The shampoo is already so much better than what I was using before. It actually leaves my hair feeling clean and not oily. I can't speak to the hair rejuvenating aspects because I've only been using it for a few days so far and I haven't noticed any difference with my hair growth yet. Though to be honest, I'm not sure that I will and that's okay too. I'm happy with it so far. It's a little expensive compared to what I normally get, but I've seen worse so I decided not to take a star off for that. I did think about it though. You'll have to choose for yourself if you think it's a good value. Read more

It's a little expensive for 8 ounces but not totally out of line with many fancy shampoos that promise fabulous things for your hair. This one does have an impressive list of ingredients; in fact there are so many ingredients that I sort of wonder how much of each here could possibly be in this smallish bottle. There's something like 40 listed before Minoxidil, for example, which is one of the ingredients that features so prominently in the product description, as this shampoo is really targeting people who want to strengthen and grow their hair and that's the purview of Minoxidil. That aside, the shampoo has a nice minty smell and left my hair feeling clean afterwards. The shampoo looks and feels more like a conditioner, but it suds up like any hair shampoo. My husband has also used it and likes it well enough. He's hoping to see some hair growth from it, but I know that usually takes quite a while with any product. Finally, I found the cap a little tricky, like it didn't want to open when I pressed down on it or at least didn't release as much shampoo as I wanted, so I unscrewed the top to use it. Read more
