Great product works as well as the standard Crock Pot. I like the the big dial so you can see the allotted timer. I liked the Crock Pot in the past, but I like this unit better. Read more

I bought this particular Hamilton Beach slow cooker after noticing a small price drop. I’ve owned other Hamilton Beach products over the years and have been happy with their durability and quality. After downsizing I tried my multi-cooker's slow cook program a few times, but it just wasn't the same. I wanted a good slow cooker again. Overall, this slow cooker does what a slow cooker is supposed to do. There are just a few things worth knowing going in. What works well… This is a familiar, reliable brand. The cooker feels solid and easy to use, with simple controls and no learning curve. The 6-quart size is practical. It's big enough to handle the max I tend to cook, which for our 2-person household might mean 2-3 nights of dinners. I think it'd be the right size for six adult servings, or two adults and two ravenous teens. Like most newer slow cookers, it gets pretty hot. I’m usually around when it’s running and just switch it to Low as needed. That works fine for how I cook. The timer is easy to read and intuitive to use. Any time I can make a thing work without having to read the manual I give bonus points for good design. Things to keep in mind… It definitely runs hotter than older slow cookers I’ve owned. That seems common these days, but if you’re used to older models, it may take a little adjustment. The stoneware crock doesn’t always come completely clean in the dishwasher. If I don’t lightly oil the inside before cooking, a thin cooked-on film can be very hard to remove, even with hand scrubbing. There’s no locking or travel lid. Not a big issue for me, since I picked up a separate silicone/bungee-style lid strap, but something to be aware of. In hindsight, I slightly regret not choosing the pricier model that includes a temperature probe and lets you cook to a specific internal temperature. This one works fine, and I do have a thermometer I can use with this slow cooker. But geez that cook-to-temp feature would've been sweet. I haven't yet tried the defrost function, mostly because I haven't had the need to. But also because I'm not clear on the way it works, and specifically what it does to both mind safe temperatures and ensure the meal actually gets done on time. Bottom line: If you want a dependable, basic slow cooker from a brand you probably already trust, this one fits the bill. If cooking to an exact temperature, easier cleanup, or built-in travel features matter to you, it may be worth looking at a higher-end model. For simple slow cooking at a reasonable price, this one gets the job done. Read more
Works well but I think it has a HOT spot so using a Crock Pot bag while cooking helps. It is nice that it goes to the warm setting after the time cooking time you set. Read more
