Smudging requires blowing on the embers to produce smoke—this is standard practice. If you light it and simply set it down, of course it will go out. I smudged my entire home with one of these sticks, and it burned exactly as it should. You have to blow on it. When used properly, it produces a beautiful, steady smoke. I will most definitely be buying this item again. I cant say enough about how much I appreciate the effort, time, and creativity put into this product. Not only speaking of the sage itself but the presentation on and within the packaging. I appreciate the instructions and the blessing message within the pamphlet. This gives a truly authentic experience of burning sage. It made me feel like I have this for a more meaningful purpose than for the aroma. The sage is perfect and its a reasonable size as well. The aroma is soothing and the leaves are a perfect texture for easy burning. This is a great gift due to the presentation and the amount of sage within the package.
