Corroded in a month

I am disappointed in this lock. I installed this mid-to-late April to secure an outdoor fence. About a month later, I noticed that the key hole was corroded: even with the little cap on it. Now four months later, it is almost impossible to turn the key. I understand that this lock is in the weather, but I expected it to last more the 4 months. I will try some WD40 to get through the season and then find a different option. No problems with the chain. It fit the gate I was am securing. Read more

Build quality is less than anticipated but still serves its purpose

True. It is riveted plate construction. However. Easily pickable (See key pic). The lock is not coated black, just molded sleeves. Good for waterproofing, not good for uv. I could be wrong but the chain doesn't appear to be of any better build quality than a standard store chain. Very lightweight. Not dense like a hardened chain. The coating on the chain is more on the low end of coatings. Just banging around with basic on off use and bare metal is easily visible. The length is nice for 2 ladders on a ladder rack. For me it just needs to deter a thief from trying to snatch my ladders. I don't think this is the lock you would want to use for high dollar items. It's more of a novelty with the blackout than function. Looks cool for sure. At this price point, I don't think I would expect more than what I received. If you want a cool looking lock, go for it. If you want to stop a 1/2 way committed thief, don't buy this lock. Read more
